route constantly crashing

I have a route that I haven't worked on in a while. In fact, I started it in 2010 on a different machine running XP. I am now attempting to open it in 2012 on my new machine (win 10) and it keeps crashing. No missing deps or errors and I performed an EDR. I am getting this error in the log "trainz caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module msvcrt.dll at 0023:758ca3be." Not sure where to go from here, maybe someone can point me in the right direction. EDIT- The reason I was accessing this route was to
put a few things on my pick list. The route remained stable long enough for me to select these objects and drag them to the pick list however, the items won't stay on the list for some reason..have never had this happen.

Could this be due to th content being updated, most of my 2010 routes suffer from this.

Justin,

The problem is caused by a corrupted asset somewhere.

I had this with a big route in TS12. I spent days searching high and low and would end up with the same error, which is a memory protection error. Finally after much work hunting around and ready to give up on the problem, I found it.

The cause was some corrupted Speed Trees. I didn't find these until I replaced the trees with others to import the route into T:ANE. I went through the usual tree replacement using the search and replacement. I grabbed on one of the Pofig trees and it crashed my route! After a few tries, I was able to finally replace the asset and no longer had that problem again. In your case it may not be a bad tree, but it could be anything. Good luck with this as this is one of the most difficult things to find.

Now, did this happen recently after using an asset that you downloaded recently from the DLS? If so try going back to an earlier version of the route and see if that helps. Other than doing this, it can be like finding dead ants in black pepper.

I had the same problem in T12, route would crash as soon as I navigated to a particular area, after several crashes I deleted that 1 board, crash fixed. Another occurrence was with signal scripting error, deleting the signal fixed the crash.

I am using mostly pofig trees in that route. I am sure that since I have worked on this route plenty of assets have been updated. I tried opening the route, and then moving along with the compass...it occurs at the same spot when doing this and/or when opening up the map and trying to click to a different part of the route. If im not showing any errors how do I know what it could be? I can't get the route to stay running long enough to delete anything that way.

John[/Q]I guess I could clone the route, open it up and try replacing every type of tree with just one to start? I am using mostly pofigs in my other main route and it works just fine, I'm going to have to remember what types I used on this old route. I would guess the transfer from 10 to 12 is to blame?edit:It would be impossible to tell, I haven't ipened this route in a while. I have installed alot since then amd since transferring to 2012 and a diff machine.

Here is another odd thing. I am trying to check all the route dependencies, in CMP it shows that there are 1008 deps for the route, however I know this to be false as it's not listing the pofig trees, among others...the config file for the route shows 1310 deps for the route. This started happening when I had 2010 and 2012 installed on my ssd and it ran out of storage, it seemed to have messed things up. I deleted 2010 but I have this problem of not being able to view all deps with my another route I am working on. So basically, there could be a problem with an asset and I'm not sure how to even see that it is occurring.. if the route config lists all deps why won't CMP see this? I guess I could copy and paste from my config and then painfully edit out all of the kuid table (1,2,3,4....thru 1310)entries and then paste in CMP?

I went in a created a new session, thinking it wouldn't hurt to try. I have narrowed it down to a few board area. When I was able to "get closer" to and in the problem area I noticed a Mcguirrel speedtree looking very odd, pixellated and "rainbow-y". Just really odd looking. Then it crashed to desktop again. I have fixed/deleted all installed assets showing as faulty. The only ones I couldn't delete were built in items. The are some deps for this route that need updating, including this particular speedtree that was looking very sick. I hope this is the problem as I don't know how to delete baseboards when it keeps crashing. This program makes me want to drink (more).

The symptoms you have are exactly the same I would have. I could drive or navigate anywhere in the route except one particular section in either Driver or Surveyor.

I would bet the rainbow-y tree is probably the culprit, however, I would have repaired, replaced, or updated the faulty assets rather than delete them since they are going to be dependencies elsewhere.

I've felt the same way too sometimes. I've been fighting an AI issue where the AI work sometimes and I think I fix the problem but then I try the same route again another day and they're back doing the same thing.
