I am in need of a mid 1950's paint schemed E or F unit (A&B) locomotive in Richmond, Fredricksburg and Potomac (RF&P) RR colors. Since there aren't any of the DLS, I will be reskinning an existing asset.

The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to find a good, color photo of these units to work from. I found this one ( http://www.highlandsstationllc.com/images/Calloway/RFP1104RICHMOND1965.JPG )but it is tough to sample the colors with much accuracy, I think. I searched the net but did not find much else and I'm not sure that the blue and gray used later by the railroad were the same colors as used during the era I would like to model.

Anyone have a link to a good color photo or able to share a photo they might have in their collection? Were the base colors of the railroad the same over it's life time?

Any help is appreciated!
Duane

Hi there Duane.

Yes, the colors were the same over the life of the engines. The only major change was deletion of the round RF&P symbol on the door.

I happened to be working on a set, I was using the book RF&P Railroad: Linking North and South by old line graphics for color matching.. Sometimes the photos on the internet are really hard to get a good match to.

There are a few E units on the DLS... I haven't re-skinned one yet, but I was going to give one a go...

Currently for F7 (and F3/F5) Reskins I am using NorfolkSouthern 37 's F7s from Jwww.jointedrail.com ..... He has a reskin kit over there.

EDIT: Sometimes I look on WWW.RR-Fallenflags.org for good pics

Thanks for your reply and the info. I had forgotten about the "Fallen Flags" website. Alas, no good color pictures there either.

The RF&P provided some of the motive power (and passenger cars) for some of the passenger trains that ran through the route I am modeling, mixed in with ACL units (usually an "A" here and a "B" there) in the same consists.

The stripe schemes RF&P used appear to be very close to the same layout as ACL used on their purple and silver E and F units.

I was going to buy the book you mentioned but I think my wife would kill me, what with all the Seaboard, Atlantic Coastline and vintage Trains mags I've been bringing home lately.

If you are going to take a shot at skinning a unit to RF&P colors, I may just wait and "steal" one of yours. If you don't, I will but it takes me some time to complete a reskin... s-l-o-w!
Thanks
Duane

Hi Duane:

I usually put all my reskins up for free. No need to steal :)

Check out the link in my signature.

MGtrainz, US Locomotive works, Trainz Pro Routes all have F7s up for free download too. The Site that started all of this , Jointedrail.com, has a couple of sets up for free download.

You never know, you might find something you like.

Orloldman, off topic: Whats with your profile? It says N/A for your number of posts, your name is in a different spot, and few other characteristics of regular profiles. ;)

I'm a stealth member!

Seriously, something got screwed up when I registered for the forum - I think the site crashed or it may have been that it took so long to get approval to join that I went in and messed up my profile. That was back when Auran support was running a week or more behind.

At first, I couldn't get access at all. That got fixed by Auran Corp. but now, nothing gets saved for my forum profile - like avatar or signature - nor how many posts I've made.

It's supposed to be in the forum master's hands to fix but I was told they have bigger fish to fry. I honestly think it will never be fixed and will be very suprised if it every happens.

I will finally be posting some reskins to the DLS soon so I will feel like I am giving back something for everyone else help and creations I have been using. I guess it's been more like "borrowing" then stealing!!

Thanks again
Duane
