Returning to Trainz

Hello everyone. I had ventured into the world of Trainz when 2006 came out and was soured by the experience. I see that 2009 has come out and that it seems to be fairly stable compared to 2006.

My question is, should I go ahead and purchase Trainz now or wait for the Engineer edition?

Once I get it Ill start using some of the Razorback railways routes, ect. Since 2006 never caught on there.....now I just need to make sure I'm still registered there lol.

Thanks in advance for any information.

John

All I have to say is do your research, read what it says it comes with in detail on the (about) page and scout the forums as well.

You also might want to check out the trainz-dev forums as well.

Good luck with what you choose to do!!

All the modern Razorback Railway material (layouts, utilities, rolling stock and activities) is fully tested and compatible with TRS2006, except of course we can't solve its sound bug that affects some people. It's also fully compatible with TRS2004 which doesn't have the sound bug.

So far, we haven't released anything which will run on TRS2009 - but at this very moment Larry is deep in the RBR coding caves conjuring up all sorts of magic spells for it.

To get a good idea of exactly what TRS2009 does and does not offer, take a look at the various threads on this forum which discuss it. Be sure to understand precisely what you're buying.

I started with TS 2004 about 9 months before TS 2006 came out. I then purchased TS 2006 and as time went by, became very unhappy with it, so I can see why you didn’t like Trainz if you started with 2006.
I did beta and purchased TS 2009 and it has worked quite well.
I say “yes”, get 2009, it seems to be a much better product than TS 2006, but then I think 2004 is better than 2006.
Just My opinion and my vote, if I have one.
Good Luck

I look forward to the release. Do you have to recreate the route again with the new textures? Or is it just coding for the activities and such?

The situation with our three routes (Classic, Dual and Shunt) is being evaluated but I'm not up-to-date with the latest news. Last I heard, a brand new series of activities will have to be created.

...and its a good opinion!

clearly many know,(the ones that really 'use' it) than 06 was their WORST ever,,,,and 04 WAS a very stable and remains platform...
but if you want to go back 3 years, or even 5, and use those versions,,,you go right ahead, many of us are working IN, and making 2009 the best version ever, which already it clearly is, despite hiccups, which always happen in software,,,and finally, a 30 $ game, meant to entertain....

enjoy em all for what their worth(oops)

lol

great opinion mate, love my 2009 too,,,its the way forward with trainz....

Ahhh, I'm getting more excited about what I'm reading about 2009. Seems to be very promising.

Now I just have to get the game. I really want to make the most of it and learn how to use it effectively. I was frustrated with 2006 (despite the other glareing set backs at that time) with not knowing just what I could do.

I'm a stickler for doing things the 'official' way, wanting the most realistic experience I could get.

I'm hoping to learn a lot from those more familiar with the program than I am.

Again, thanks for helping!

ISAM read my rant on paging tony and crew about cm2 and cmp

You won't be so excited when CM2 goes tits up on you, 7x times in one evening.

Purely because i dared to ask it to download more than 2x files from the DLS.

I thought CMP was bad, but this new version out cruds it by a farmers mile.

your not alone my friend:(

I downloaded a 2009 route that required 170 assets from the DLS and although it was slow going CM2 never faltered.
I broke it up in three sections.
so my experience with CM2 was no cause for concern.

Are there any routes created just for 2009 yet? or is everyone just from 2004 and 2006 right now?

There might be some for download.. but I have not seen any yet.

I am still waiting on the CM to finish the ts09_## objects... after about a week of letting it run every night... I am up to TS_41. (but then there are all the out of date stuff that needs to be updated /cry)

There are some new routes that are labled "2007" that come with 09... but a lot of them are not in english.

At present there are 6 routes for 2009 (that I've found) one is a board containing a number of 2009 Textures from Tony Hilliam, one you may be interested in is Summerlake Valley ,a couple are City Tram routes, the others I Don't remember what they are.

Of course if you have not registered a serial number for TS09 in your Profile you will not have access to them on the DLS.

Yeah I realise I can't download anything yet. I'm just trying to make the best decision so I don't have a repeat of my last experience.

Need to Read

select my choice right click on it select download it then places it in the DLH. I also tried to drag it in the DLH and select start still nothing. I can see my selection in the Download Helper Action Panel but still nothing goes. There is a little active icon that acts like it is showing it is downloading but not. Everything is idle. You can walk away and come back in a hour and it is still trying to download but nothing is happening. Since I put on 2009 I can't download in 2006 either.

TODAY 1/11/09 INSTALLED TRAINZ CLASSICS with the hope that the download station would work I had a 105 days left on my FCT and now have 95 days. Still the download station is not working. I have deleted and reinstalled, checked the passwords and usernames also let the download run all night and still no content. If you contact Auran support help desk it takes a day and then they get all bent out of shape on you when they think you are not doing what they suggested. I have a lot invested in the program I own 2004, 2006, 2009, Trains Classic, plus several download tickets and Rail Driver. Please can someone help with this.

If you are prepared for a storm of Fatal Errors, then yes, I should persuade you to purchase it. Its not too stable, but its better than 06 in some terms, and it has many great features and new rolling stock that wasn't included in 06 or TC(mainly the content from Germany is new, besides the fact that Modula City comes in full haul in 09). Its a great program, but it needs to be a bit less sensitive when it comes to hardware and fatal errors. 09 at its best!

The latest patch supposedly fixes this problem. Try it and see if it works for you.
