Len

You can use Fileviewer to look at his mesh (I haven't got the link, can somebody help). You may then get some help by comparison.

Thanks John I shall find that and have a go.
BTW I dont suppose you can help can you?
What I am trying to do in gmax is make a 6m width 0.1deep spline that I can add a texture to that looks like ballast which a track can go onto but I cannot find a tut for what I want to do in gmax so if you can I would be very grateful. Thats if you know a little about gmax as I would need a idiots guide.
Cheers

That is a brilliant prog Bill its a pity I cant alter the dimensions of a file I load in it, or is there some way.?

If you send me your email via pm, I'll send you a mesh and config with instructions, for a spline object you can play around with.

Chris.

If the .im file your looking at is yours, (like you have the original gmax file) you can edit that in gmax. If it's someone else's .im file you can't do any adjustments to the mesh without having the original gmax or 3Ds file from the creator and have their permission of course.

TOE works great for checking your progress on your content without having to fire up Trainz every time you make a change to your mesh. But like all programs it does have it's limitations that have to be lived with.

Hello there Bill,,,,,,,, I found that TOE will not open an .im file, unless I am doing something wrong ,,,,,,,AGAIN

Hi John.........Im sorry I dont know if there is one or more progs called file viewer but the one I have just downloaded will not open .im files.
Its by Accessory software.

Please, use the latest version Shape Viewer by Good Old Decapod.

http://www.mstrainstop.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=1869

Now it opens and handles .im and .pm!

Of course, 'no reverse engineering' is possible (and not wanted or fostered here). Original mesh files (and permissions if applicable) are needed to make changes.

Note: It doesn't work in Windows Vista.

TOE doesn't handle 'last generation' .im's and those compiled with the latest versions of 3D Max (7 and up).

Hello Alberte,,,,I understand about no reversing, its just that I am so confused with this gmax beast I was wanting to see how others did it.
I am beginning to think I have bitten off more than I can chew,
We shall see.

I was wanting to see how others did it.

Just ask, Len. If known, we all can help you. Self-teaching is a very satisfying and rewarding knowledge system but it takes longer. ;)

What one doesn't know, others can and it creates a knowledge web.

Thankyou very much Alberte, it is comforting to know that there is someone out there that does want to help, sometimes it seems that Im the only one on the forum.
I am sure there is plenty more questions I have
Thanks again
Len

 Note: It does work with Vista, however you need the file DX8vb.dll from windows XP to be registered first.

That's direct information from the source: :hehe:

Paul, please, could you detail the process? The 'run REGSVR32 /V DX8VB.DLL' does not work for me, it gives an error (0x80070005). Of course, I installed the dx8vb.dll in the Windows\System32 folder. Version 2.1.227.

:p My new version of the original note: It doesn't work with my Windows Vista

Thank you very much.

The error message means "access denied" so I suspect you need to run regsrv32 as administrator.

Another small note - the support for IM and PM files in shape viewer is not complete, some files still fail to load and the material options are not quite correct yet.

Thanks for that Alberte,,,,,,,,And Im sorry to say that the link you gave me does not seem work properly as it gets halfway and sticks there.
BTW I am getting there with gmax as chrisaw put me in the right direction by creating my spline with the plane shape.
I`m dying to get back on with my route but I have been taking all my time up with gmax, as I have said its a monster if you dont understand it.
There was one other thing I was wanting that I cant find, I saw it a while back but cannot find it now, and that is a road where the cars can overtake a parked car. If you know which it is Alberte would you let me know please.
Nice to be in touch
till the next time
Cheers
