reskinning locos

where can i find "blank" locos (for lack of better term) of different types to add custom skinning to? do i just need to make a duplicate then reskin already skinned locos?

Clone your loco of choice ... open for edit in explorer, re-name the username line in it's config file to your choice ... commit it ... re-open the cloned loco in, edit in explorer again ... edit the cloned loco, using: MS Paint, Free Irfanview, Gimp, Paint.net, Photoshop ... etc

Do not use MS Paint, it will not open or save a.tga file.

If you find you can't find a "blank" locomotive to your liking then make friends with the clone tool in Photoshop. Although I'm not the best at using this tool I can, in most cases, have acceptable results. Once you've "cleaned" the skin you can apply the road name and weathering if necessary. Save this blank PSD file for future reskins.

That being said I won't waste my time on diesels :hehe:.

Some creators have released reskinnable versions of their work, usually the same model with a grayscale or neutral colored texture map. Dave Snow has done this with his Gensets, why not try one of those first?

N8PHU's site has Alco RS's, Jointed Rail has F7A&B's, McHawkman (MSP) has SW1500's, or search the download station for "undec" in the title or in the description, and you'll get a ton of GPs, SDs, S2s and S4s, HH660s, and an H-16-44. Pick your poison, and good luck!!
