Resizing Buildings

I am new to Trainz and need help on surveyour. I have laid the tracks and roads and now want to lay the buildings.I find that the buildings are of different sizes. Some of which I downloaded from the download station are much bigger than the ones that came with the package. How can I resize buildings so that they all are of equal scale and fit to the scenary

You can't re-size buildings. Some creators occasionally slip up in matters of scale, but often buildings do vary massively in terms of size, ceiling height door size etc. Best bet is to put some people next to the buldings and see which look right, and delete those that don't. Also, bear in mind that some of the original buildings that date from the first release of Trainz are a bit basic, so they may not be the best yardstick...

Hope this helps.

Paul

p.s. And WELCOME to Trainz!

If its a matter of height and you"re mainly interested in the general "appearance" of the buildings from a distance, simply click "adjust height" and push (say) a skyscraper under the ground till its the height you want. You can make a two storey house into a single storey house by doing this and use a Porch to simulate a door. The best thing is to go to the DLS and enter "Building" , "House" , "Shop" etc., and wade through the hundreds of items till you find something suitable..

Hi,

Ask yourself this?
What type of layout is it?
Would the train travel to and through small towns or cities?

For high and low rise buildings , I am the guy that makes those items... at the DLS type Ish6 and click on username ...

For small scale buildings I strongly recommend dmdrake items...

It all depends on the layout ... again, ask yourself the above questions ...

Good luck and welcome ...

Ish:)

thanks ISH, infact I did download some of the office towers you have created but found that they seem some what larger in scale compared with the other building objects found with Trainz. is it due to some scale issue? I am using real scale

No. The quality of assets available on the DLS vary (as they do, as it happens, with those built into the game).

From time to time you will find an asset on the DLS where the creator has got the scale wrong. Sometimes this means that the item can only be used in the background or, say, combined with another building so as to hide the out-of-scale feature (e.g doors and entrances too small, stairs or steps the wrong size). Sometimes, though, the scale is so wrong that the item is of no use at all.

Building size is a function of the settings used in Gmax by the original designer. The scale setting in Surveyor only controls the calibration/readings of the ruler function.

Maybe the building is correct, it's your expectations of scale that are wrong.

For example this thread:

The poster never got back to me as to which station he has the problem with.

There are only two of my stations used in TRS2006, both in the Toronto Raillands layout. They are "Port Hope Old Station" (just the "Port Hope Station" from the DLS with the VIA stuff removed) and "Don Station", both of which were created especially for TRS2006.

Both of these stations are still standing. In fact I spent a January afternoon a couple of years back freezing my butt off taking pictures and measuring Don Station. And yes the eves seem a little low, but hey the thing was built in the 1800's when people were a lot shorter.

Tom

PS: Please don't ask me where you can get these two stations. They're builtin to TRS2006. You want 'em, buy the game.
