Replacing Default Track in TRS2004

Good Morning,

Could someone please advise me whether it is possible to replace the default track in a layout with an alternative track in TRS2004.

I wanted to replace the track on the Auranshire County Railway layout, from the default one to another one of my choice. Rather than replace the many track pieces from within Surveyor I chose to make a note of the default track KUID, identify the KUID of the track I wanted to use, open TO and using F7 made the changes.

I received the confirmatory message that xxx number of objects had been replaced, however when opening the 'modified' layout in Surveyor it crashes and I return to the desktop.

Thankfully TO makes a backup of the layout before replacing KUIDs and I was able to undo what I had done.

There are several layouts that I have installed, some of which use the default track texture, of which I would like to replace.

Sorry if this appears a little vague, only I am away from my Trainz PC.

Many thanks for any help or advice.

Regards

Paul

TO is normally pretty good at track swapping - very good in fact.

I'd start by checking that the replacement track was trainzbuild 2.4 (or lower) and that it was error-free.

Thanks Dermmy,

The replacement track (I don't have the KUID to hand) is trainzbuild 2.4 and is error free (it features in several routes that I use in TRS2004).

The next time I am at my Trainz PC I'll list the KUID of the replacement track, that may help.

You can also do it with Trainzmap. It's another option if you continue to have problems. I think the last version was still compatible with TRS04. It will check for installed track on your system and only permit selection from the list - IIRC. If you don't have it, do a forum search on Trainzmap as someone found an active dl link recently.

Dear All,

I already had TrainzMap installed and didn't realise how to swap objects while using it. Having zoomed-in and 'right-clicked' over the track it allowed me to choose an alternative track object, and consequently replaced all the default track items with the one I chose for the layout in question. I will now do the same for other layouts I like that feature the default track.

To me it seemed far simpler and far quicker than using TO.

Many thanks

Paul
