Remember to purge your backups of the Bort content.

Hey guys,

This occurred to me last night, and I thought I'd mention it before I forget.

Remember to go through and purge your backups of the Bort content. Kuid 703319. I used Windows search to find his Kuid from the Userdata folders I had backed up. When the data folders were listed in the Windows search folder, I deleted the items. For me this was the recent backup so I had a duplicate of what I had just downloaded.

The reason I did this:

If a restore is done of a previous UserData folder, his content will be returned into the selection list in Surveyor. Unless you have show KUIDS on and you know the KUID or pay attention to it when building, you'll end up putting the stuff back into a route. This will then generate a ton more, if there aren't already, missing dependencies.

Indeed, as N3V are likely to remove all of said user's content from the Download Station, if they haven't already.

That's good advice there John, and I hope other users take note as well.

If the username on said assets is Bort85, delete them and any backup copies of them as well.

See my rather long thread in General Trainz for details.

Yes.

All of this users uploads have been removed from the DLS because they were copies of someones elses original content. If you use them in a route you upload to the DLS, no-one will be able to get hold of the assets. I have none downloaded, yet they still remain listed in my local CMP as on the DLS. I think a database repair will be required to removed them from CMP.

I'm not convinced that removed assets actually disappear from the listing, however when you try to download them it throws up an error as they are not there.

For example try this one, Snowdon - SMR No.4 which was an illegal very bad reskin and was removed, It's still listed but won't download
Just checked and it's now showing as a question mark as in location unknown.

Also just checked some of bort85's, still listed but come up red if you try to download, if you click on the item in Download helper it says "this item has been removed from the Download Station due to a terms of service violation." I'm guessing after a certain period that will change to the location unknown question mark?

Morning Gents: I just looked in my CM and see that I have not downloaded or installed any of his content. So I should be OK?. Boy it would be nice if they removed them from the list. I don't have any interest in about 90% of what's in there, wish I could just have North American items show up. I suppose everyone would like to have just what interests them in their CM. I have to do a little reading and see if I can get a favorites list or something started.

Cheers.....Rick

It's only people who have downloaded content by Bort85 that will run into problems if they use any of that content in a route destined for the Download Station.

So, is it possible to stop this witch hunt now?

This user made a mistake, he is banned from uploading content, his assets are removed from the DLS, finished!
What you guys want to gain with this distasteful thread?

Mick!

Good morning, Mick,

This isn't a witch hunt. Yes, this guy made a mistake and has been banned, but this not the point of this topic. The problem is his items have been downloaded. I know I surely did, and did use them in a route I was working on. I went and deleted the items from my active copy of my Userdata, and my route showed a couple of missing assets. This was not a big deal. However, should I have restored my data from my backup, which I had just done a day before, I would have put his stuff back into circulation and have included in a route. Now suppose I wanted to upload the route? That would cause missing assets, and only add more to the missing asset mess. By purging my backups and my system of his assets, I have ensured that none of his uploads get included in a route that I am building.

I know this does bring up a sticky issue and a bad name, so I was being careful on how I went about this.

Happy holidays,

John

The main problem now is the after-effects, hence why this thread is existing. Users who have downloaded the affected content will end up with missing dependency problems if they have included it in a route/session. Likewise, any routes/sessions with the affected content will now have missing dependencies.

Shane

P.S. I wouldn't call it a witch hunt - it is important to protect content creators' rights.
