Regarding SnC and other paid for content !

In the past, has it been possible to clone e.g a SnC session and modify it yourself ? (never did this in the past, just played the sessions)Reason i'm asking is that if I try to commit a cloned version I get a message about not having permission to commit it. I wanted to know if this is new to SP1 one or has it always been the case ?

It's new to SP1, Payware routes are now locked. You can clone them in a pre SP1 version or in TS2010 and import then, and then you are able to modify them.

Please tell me I'm not hearing this right, If I buy content, lets say Murchason, or a locomotive I am not going to be allowed to modify the content

Hi

The solution for the moment is to have a second installation of TS12 49922 where you can still clone etc as mentioned above. The main issue with this though is that in future you will be unable to correct any errors that may be in the original route which affect what you are wanting to do. For example, on the ECML, the tunnel at the bottom of platform 14 at King's Cross is disconnected from the track. It isn't something that you can repair in the session layer. Similarly, naming or re-naming signals (there are a number with duplicate names) for use with a path rule isn't possible without making a copy of the route as they are on the route layer.

When you consider that major errors have taken two years to be corrected with SP1 then something relatively minor such as the ones that I have mentioned will never be looked at by N3V. I've got round the tunnel issue by adding an un-portal at the bottom of P14 but there doesn't seem to be a work around for the signalling problem.

I'd like to make a point here regarding the layers.

There is nothing stopping users from modifying items on the route layer, but the 'Lock entire route' feature must be switched off first (it's on the Layers tab).

Hi

Since Shane posted I've checked this out and it seems that the ECML can still be cloned but the S&C route can't. It will make a clone but won't allow you to commit it so the clone is unusable. It's a relief about the ECML as I am looking forward to the next stage being released. I hope N3V don't extend this type of control to built in routes in future for the reasons that I gave above.

No difference Shane, wasn't expecting any as it's not a bug it's a deliberate addition of the privileges container in most if not all payware assets, ECML isn't a payware add-on it's built in so there is I suppose the difference. Need a bigish patch to change all the configs for all the items! and would probably need a separate patch for each DLC. This patch is for TS12 not DLC which I guess is a separate issue. Can't see N3V changing this either, like it or not they have every right to protect payware from possible misuse, possibly has happened and this is the result.

That would make sense. N3V are probably trying to avoid errors creeping into DLC content, and the easiest way of doing that is to do it that way. It may also be a side effect of the packages system.

I have got round the problem of not being able to commit the clone or a modified session from in game by copying the new asset directory from userdata/editing to the desktop or other place where it can be easily found, then editing the config.txt file and removing the privileges container and the three lines including is-payware-content 1, followed by changing the kuid no and the name. After saving the config.txt file the new asset can be dragged and dropped or imported into CM. The new asset can be committed and is playable in game.

In that case, on the S&C route, you would think that they would have repaired the major trackwork glitch at the south end of Carlisle station which makes platform 1 unusable. If you look at the road running under the station you will see a section of track that drops down through the road. This was reported in the forums a couple of years ago and was quite easily repairable by the user at that time. Unfortunately that is no longer the case without resorting to the workaround mentioned above. While the workaround may be ok for an experienced user it would be quite difficult for less experienced people to use.

I'd say it's to prevent users from distributing the payware files to users who have not purchased it .
The only downside is legitimate users cant make alterations plus all of the additional content that was available from the S&C site has now been locked down as well .
The .texture files can not be converted by Images2tga and the meshes will not open in mesh viewer .

The class 45 peak that is now built-in with the S&C addon contains a license agreement that allows personal reskins , Under the new system you cant reskin it ??
