Recommended routes?

I've just purchased TRS2004 (and updated it to SP4 build 2365) and I already had TRS2006 (updated to SP1 build 3092). I would like people to recommend what routes are best. I'm mostly interested in real routes that are well done with good attention to detail but, would also look at other types if they are interesting. Is there a site that lists routes and gives descriptions?

Thanks, Dave

Hi there Dave,

Do yourself a huge favour and hop on over to TrainzProRoutes....if you haven't already that is.

www.trainzproroutes.org/

Not only do they have some awesome routes, but descriptive to go with them are second to none. They also provide maps and have their own forum for support. They are also excellent in providing assistance with route dependencies too.

Andy Turnbull (aka Dermmy) has some great stuff too, with descriptive and screenshots to accompany his works as well as dependencies support.

http://www.checkrail.com/

An extra novelty is the routes/content from both of these sites don't require super computer to run them effectively.

Should be good to get you started anyway.

Ummm, dare I risk mentioning the Razorback Classic layout? It's Australian, very varied, large, fictional and runs well on most computers.

We also have the new Razorback Dual layout but that requires an extremely powerful computer to do it justice.

Visit our web site to download either or both layouts free of charge.

There's also our wide range of activities available, some freeware, some subscriptionware.

John is right about the RBR. Fantastic route. They, too have their own forum for support.
I highly recommend this little area of the world.:Y:

:)

Hello Dave McB, unsure about route descriptions as such, if you are new to Trainz, then I recommend you search on the download station (DLS) under the category - layouts - and see what takes your fancy. Are you into long freight runs, or local passenger trains, or narrow guage, trams, or steam, diesel, etc, etc. What areas of the world are you interested in, Canada, U.S; Europe, Britain or Australia, there's hundreds to choose from......:hehe:
Give us some ideas and we'll come up with some more suggestions, but those already mentioned are very good, if you are into standard guage. For a great Canadian protoroute, try neilsmith749 (kuid 95512) Toronto Lakeshore West, and for industrial switching layouts, any by philskene (kuid 69871 ) are excellently created and run OK on low/medium sized computers, and all recommended for TRS2004.

Loads more ideas also to be found on 3rd Party sites from around the world, as some links already offered, give us your thoughts and we'll come to your rescue......

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should be more clear about this. I already know about all the third party content (like Razorback, ProTrainzRoutes, etc.) because of them being in TRS2006. (I've already installed Razorback) I've looked at the DLS and it's difficult to tell the quality of any route without downloading it first which I would prefer not to do because, if it sucks, I'm stuck with it. I was hoping people would post about the routes that they love and why they love them. That way I could get a better idea of which routes to try.

Phil's kuids: 69871:

Huge layouts with dozens of sessions ... Phil has also detailed everything!

Enjoy

Try some of mine

Hi there,
I have created several real routes to full scale, the Kent & East Sussex, Hayling Island, the section from Paddington to Reading is completed and on the DS or from my site to download. The 2nd section from Reading to Westbury is on greateastern's site for download but it's only about 2/3rds complete, afraid my eyes won't stand up to high detailing anymore.

They all have great detail, I use two PCs, one with Trainz running the other with either Google Earth or Maps Live so I can make each 'window' as near as possible to the real route.

I also have several routes not based on anything in particular but still highly detailed. One such route is West Country Days which is a much reworked version of British Midlands2, although there is very little left of the original and it is expanded.

Search angelah on the DS or go to my site, the link is at the bottom of the window. Choose the railways section from the home page otherwise you'll be there for ages having fun!

All made in 2004 so will load into 06 too.

Good luck finding what you want.

Angela

Cumberland to Connellsville

Cumberland to Connellsville is a large well detailed US route It depicts the Western Maryland and the B&O from Cumberland Md. to Connellsville Pa., approximately 100 miles. It also includes portions of the Cumberland & Pa, Pennsylvania RR, Pittsburgh & Lake Erie, Pittsburgh & West Virginia, and several smaller railroads. It's designed for TRS2004, but can be successfully converted to TRS2006 You'll find it here:http://trainzproroutes.com/downloads/index.php?act=view&id=792

here's some of my favorites

At the moment you have a total of 2034 layouts/routes to choose from on the download station. (2004/2006/TC).
A daunting task to download all of them to find the 10 to 30 that you like the most. Hopefully a lot of the more experienced Trainzer's will give you there picks (5 to 25) to make it easier for you, (& newbies) to decide which ones to download first...........
Some of my favories are;
Port Odgen&Northern 1a - Urban IndustRail 8a - Austral Bay V5a - IndustRail 1b - RiversideRailroadCo 1a 2007RBC - Fictive Paris - Amtrak Pacific Surfliner - Niddertalbahn - DB-Projekt 1970 - Midwest Central-V2
Some of these ones above have some excellent scenario's;
(As mentioned in the post above another really good one is; Razorback Classic)....
Others from just recently to 3/4 years back; Watseka&Kankakee Railroad; Niiagara Belt Line v1; Summer Lake Pass; TRS-SP2 CanImp Line - Pinewood Valley Line; - Shelby Shunter; - Stony End2; - Ostalagie II; - Transit Rail 2005; - UK Branchlines; - Tennessee East; - Tidewater Point Rail; - UMR; - Paris-Rambouillet - Wiestritzbahn.

PLEASE NOTE; These are just some of my favorites. Some are reasonably new and some are my old favorites that go back several years.
There are dozens & dozens of layouts that are on the download station that are very good/excellent, and are better than some of my personal favorites. (everyone has there own personal taste)!!!!!!
There's some really great layout/route/content creators out there who put 100's & sometimes 1000's of hours into creating there masterpieces. I take my hat off to all of them...............
There's also some excellent payware layouts/routes out there that you can purchased. I've personally only purchased one payware route and that was; Murchison 2 (by Sirgibby). (It's the best layout I personally have come across yet and in my opinion, well worth the money).
I'm sure there are other excellent payware layouts/routes out there. If anyone knows of any payware layouts/routes that is as good as Murchison 2, please let me know and I would be happy to purchase it/them (providing they are reasonably priced)........
Cheers, Mac.

PS; Dave, since posting this post I've had a couple of e-mails from Trainzer mates that are to lazy to reply in person to your 'thread' and have asked me to include there 'favorites' in my post.. (lazy b_ggers)....
Here goes; Ohio Central-A Buckeye Route - CSX Saginaw Sub - Ashland Central V2 - McCall Yard - Tronto Subway Subway System V2 - BR Midlands Fantasy - Sen City 2006 - Graubunden v2007 - EpoIII SCS P79 - Train Watching - Model Railroading Final - Ohmatalbahn - Schrieitalbahn - French Riviera - Gilby&Wallace - Desert Wood....
I assume these are in no particular order & hopefully these's helps you (and any newbie) to decide what to possibly download... Cheers.

Thanks guys, you're giving me lots to look at. I've already installed Razorback Classic and am in the process of installing the free scenarios.

Lotsa luck getting some of the routes from DLS to work. I was going to post a similar question, as I have been fiddling through the list trying to decide what might be an interesting layout... but I get so many missing assets on most that I have tried. Some routes dont show up at all, like the Virginian & Ohio. After all the downloading, its not showing anywhere. Yet the kuid is in the download folder so that too is, I can only assume, more missing assets that stop the layout from showing up.
I just tried the Eastern Kentucky route from protrainzroutes, and that was full of missing assets as was the Gorre & Daphetid (large version).
Very frustrating... where have all the assets gone?

BD

Yeah, that seems to be the main problem with Trainz add-on routes, all the extra downloading to get the assets.

Thanks for all the replies, Dave

Not to sure why the routes you are downloading have so many "missing assets". I rarely have this problem.
One solution might be to change your settings in CMP. In CMP go to FILE - SETTINGS - MICELLANEOUS and untick "Suppress Asset Warning in Trainz" Make sure "Automatically commit" is ticked also.
Next time you try an run a route that you know has missing assets, make sure you are connected to the internet. Before the route loads you should get a screen that give you the opportunity to "find missing assets". Click on that and your system will open CMD and try and find the missing assets. If those missing assets are on the download station it should find them, and you should be able to download them.
If they not on the download station/CMP you will then have to try and find them on third party sites. Which can be very frustrating..............
Cheers, Mac.

Ah, perhaps I should have clarified - am running a recent install (fresh) of 2004, SP4, and still getting these problems. The same with many engines - some work fine, some don't show up which I assume is also from missing dependencies.
Of the routes that have missing dependencies, the black screen in 2004 allows me to look for them but alas, they are not found.

Yet I know these downloads have worked for others, at some time. I am going to make a separate post about the locos that I have that don't work, to see if anyone else has had recent problems.

Thanks

Which V&O? One had problems that included I believe an incorrect kuid of -2.
Which G&D? There are a few.
Do you have TrainzObjectz? It will easily tell a list of missing items, you could then copy and paste the kuids you're looking for in a topic. If you spend time learning to use some of TO's functions, it will also download missing items that are on DLS including hidden ones you cannot normally see but you have to be logged into DLS through your browser to do that. Useful for TRS2004.

Like the other posters, I've explored various layouts on DLS. With some of them the missing assets can be resolved fairly easily but with most it's a painful struggle and with some it's impossible.

At the risk of blowing our own trumpet again, can I mention please that with the RBR you download everything you need for our layouts and activities from our server so there's never a problem with missing assets.

With respect I go to a great deal of trouble to ensure that all non-DLS content from my routes is easily available.

Everything for the EK1 as available from TPR is on the DLS with the exception of items noted under NON DLS Content on this page. I have just tested the links and they are all still live with the exception of one link to some optional 'grass' content which is used in tiny quantities and was always tagged as optional content anyway. Also I (and as far as I know all other route builders) are more than happy to respond to requests for assistance...
