Rebuilding database every time??

Since SP2 update, every time I enter Trainz2019 I have to wait for a database rebuild. Before SP2, I got the rebuild every so often, but now it is always.

For the last few weeks, I have been working on creating a very large mountain. There is no scenery, no track, nothing but mountain. I have not downloaded anything. Why do I have to wait for a database rebuild every time? I tried doing and extended rebuild, but that didn't help.

It only takes about 10-15 seconds to do this, but it is still annoying. I can only imagine what some people would do with a much slower setup waiting for a couple minutes or more.

I doubt a DBR could be so quick, perhaps just pre-caching? Either way I'd suggest checking for faulty assets, and either fix or delete them and check for updates to those assets.

I don't know what it is for sure. All I know is that before the SP2 update, ALL my layouts worked fine. Game loaded quickly. Now, all I have is misery. Some layouts load and then give me errors, when I go to check FAULTY I get all kinds of errors, I have cars that are faulty but I cannot delete them or fix them.

I didn't really sign up for all of this. All I wanted was a program to drive trains: kinda like I did with model trains 50 years ago. Now all I get are problems with everything. I download a piece of rolling stock and it worked great until SP2. Now, it is bad and I can't fix it or delete it. Perhaps I am using the wrong program.....is there something better out there (and way less difficult in fixing errors) that Trainz2019? This just isn't fun anymore. Not ONE of my previous layouts worked without a lot of time being spent fixing errors that I did not create. Some layouts still don't work.

If you just want to run trainz, consider the DLC routes that come with Trainz. Also, look at purchasing routes and sessions from Jointed Rail and NARM {the American Mountains comes to mine). There are a lot of routes on the DLS that run just fine; look at those by Philskene.

Maybe try instead of updating, try a full, clean install of SP2, after backing up all your content of course. Get it up and see if it runs, then reimport your content. It will take a little time, but may be worth a try.

Thatnks to both of you for replying. But, why should I have to do all of that? Truly, after playing with computers for 40+ years now, I have never seen a program that had so many issues! All I want to do is build a layout and run the trains. I am not doing anything complicated: no triggers, no automatic anything! Just scenery, tracks, and trains. That simple. What really irks me is that everything pretty much worked until SP2 came along. Now, everything has problems.

If this is a database crash that's causing this, which I am assuming, then there's something that's causing this. There are some things that come to mind including antivirus stomping on the data files, a glitchy disc, shutting things down unexpectedly or other sudden stops such as outright crashes.

I recommend running a DBR outside of the crashing, clean up any obsolete assets, and updating content. One of the biggest causes of a CTD is outdated or faulty scripts. Interlocking towers and ATLS assets have been updated to take care of this and if you are using a lot of them, you should update since that was one of the problems.

No, of course you don't have to do any of this. Just vent your frustrations and accept the status quo. A little late now, but never patch your only installation. Install a new one and save the old one.

I have been fighting with this now for several weeks. Today, I went at it again with a vengeance. I managed to get some more stuff fixed, but I have 2 rolling stock pieces that I cannot do anything with. They have the same errors of a bunch of meshes missing. Keep in mind that these worked fine before the SP2 update. I do not know what to do with these. Kuid is 2:30671:9890600 for both of them: one says 20' tankcontainer empty and the other says tankcontainer full. I have tried every way that I can think of to delete this, but to no avail. Does anyone know how I might do this?

I do not, and really never have, gotten any CTD issues. My virus scanner is set to ignore everything Trainz related.

"One of the biggest causes of a CTD is outdated or faulty scripts. Interlocking towers and ATLS assets" I do not believe that I use any of that. No AI here at all. Build the layout and run the trains manually. My main route is generally over 80 miles long so that I can have several trains moving on it at one time with little intervention from me: one train departs station at X number of MPH and next train departs a few minutes later go x-3 MPH. That way, I can sit back and watch a bunch of trains running around and enjoy the scenery. Numerous other tracks have one train moving at a time and require no intervention.

The commodity is something that belonged to Patricia. She passed away and her website disappeared.

I doubt that the missing commodities will cause this issue since that's a train car issue and not something physical on your route.

Do you have this issue when loading any other routes?

I drive pretty much like you do. I don't use much in the way of scripted stuff except for automated crossings and make use of the ever so helpful Schedule Library and it's companion Copy Commands from to generate my schedules. The rest is me driving my own trains and AI running from point A to point B to generate traffic. This is true even with my more complex Gloucester Terminal Electric route with all of the trolleys running about.

When I installed SP2 (new installation), I went to the MyTrainz webpage and if memory serves, had to install an earlier version and then patch to SP2. Perhaps you can try the same thing. Maybe take all traces of SP2 to an external drive and remove it from system. I an not saying this will work, just saying....

You don't say if you did a DBR? In fact given the extent of your problem and I know SP2 is a disaster (hence I haven't touched it), an extended DBR is essential. To do so from the start up screen click on "Developer" then hold down the CTRL button then click on "rebuild database". This may take up to an hour or so depending on how much stuff you actually have in the game. Grab a coffee or two and let it do it's thing, and fingers crossed. The other thing is, if you're making your own route, I hope you've made CDP copies encase something goes wrong, it usually does at some stage.

I have done several DBR with and w/o using the CTRL key. Same thing.

If I could just get rid of that tanker, I would be a whole lot closer to getting the rest of the issues cleaned up.

how are you attempting to get rid of it?

From the FAULTY drop down, I try to right click it but then DELETE is grayed out. Clicking on delete does nothing. I have deleted the tanker from every layout that I could find it in. I have gone into layouts and chosen the "remove faulty asset" (or something like that) and have deleted the tanker itself, but it still shows in the FAULTY drop down and the layout still shows an error.

In my SP2, 2:30671:9890600 shows as Unknown. So in your CM, what status is shown? Built-in, Base, other?

also determine the dependants of it

have you disabled it?

It was listed as from DLS.

The good news is that it is GONE finally! I really don't quite know exactly what I did, but I just kept clicking on things and I believe the last thing that I tried was MODIFY and that got rid of the faulty status and I then I was able to delete it. When I deleted it about 12 other things all disappeared off of the FAULTY menu at the same time. I have not tried to run the different layouts yet to see if they work or if I have gaps in trains where those cars used to be.

Thanks to all of you for all of your help. I will check further tomorrow and I hope that everything else is good now. I will post then.
