Recently one of the lines closed in Scotland back the 1960's was re-opened. This was the gap between Airdrie at the eastern end of the Glasgow Suburban system and Bathgate. Unfortunately the platform party found the train they were on failed. Must admit it made me laugh. All the build up and wallop - stuck! No doubt some red faces?
This gives yet another route between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Some time ago here I said that Glasgow and Edinburgh must be the only places to have so many quite separate passenger lines between them. This now brings the total different geographical choices to 4. Quite a record but I am still laughing! For the doubters these routes are all apart from each other....
-Glasgow Queen Street-Edinburgh via Falkirk (high speed and a train every 15 minutes approx 50 miles). Takes approx 50 minutes.
-Glasgow Central - Edinburgh via Shotts. Slow train service stopping a long list of wee stations and takes nearly 2 hours.
Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh via Bathgate.
-Glasgow - Edinburgh for the East Coast via Carstairs for the long distance East Coast.
