Re-opened line and guests get wonky train!

Recently one of the lines closed in Scotland back the 1960's was re-opened. This was the gap between Airdrie at the eastern end of the Glasgow Suburban system and Bathgate. Unfortunately the platform party found the train they were on failed. Must admit it made me laugh. All the build up and wallop - stuck! No doubt some red faces?

This gives yet another route between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Some time ago here I said that Glasgow and Edinburgh must be the only places to have so many quite separate passenger lines between them. This now brings the total different geographical choices to 4. Quite a record but I am still laughing! For the doubters these routes are all apart from each other....

-Glasgow Queen Street-Edinburgh via Falkirk (high speed and a train every 15 minutes approx 50 miles). Takes approx 50 minutes.
-Glasgow Central - Edinburgh via Shotts. Slow train service stopping a long list of wee stations and takes nearly 2 hours.
Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh via Bathgate.
-Glasgow - Edinburgh for the East Coast via Carstairs for the long distance East Coast.

That's way cool, Bobby!

I wish we had more service over here between Boston and Haverhill. There used to be three lines, but now only 1 with two of them now walking trails.

Hehe. Good old Scotrail (I know, it's First Scotrail these days but old habits die hard).

I remember going through to Glasgow from Embra about 20 years ago to get a new suit in Slaters. It was the day of my work Christmas do so must have been in January. I decided, as I had time to burn, I would get the slow train via Shotts. The guard was good enough to say that I would be better off getting the express via Falkirk but I knew better. I should have taken his advice, not realising that I was in for a 2 hour journey!

Needless to say, I got the express back having found myself very short of time by the time I'd had alterations to the suit done. Stupid boy.

There is also a 5th geographical route if you want to change train at Falkirk Grahamston. Jump off a Dunblane bound train from Embra and get on the Falkirk to Glasgow Queen Street service via What's it Called.

5 possible routes betwen 2 cities. That's service...
