I have been running Trainz UTC build 404 for around 9 months untill 1 month a go when my Pc became infected with a downloaded virus. I had to totally strip all software from the Pc and start all installations from scratch. The Pc is now running absolutely brilliantly with no problems what so ever for everything except Trainz, which when I try and run puts up the following error message. I'm really confused and dont know enough to be able to sort it , is anyone able to help. thankyou

Hi DRS337,

I am not sure that I know enough about computers either but the message displayed would make me think that there is a display issue so is your installation of Direct X up to date and/or your video card drivers??

Andy

So you would think looking at that, but have checked all drivers are up to date and have got Direct X 9 downloaded and installed

Have you tried changing the trainz setting to direct x as the indication is that open gl is not found. May be open gl and you graphics card have a problem.

Setting to either Open GL or Direct X just fetches up the corresponding error message, and yes have uninstalled to re-install several times resulting in no change what so ever - Am seriously frustrated with it, especially as every other program is running ok

Got me stumped. I would suggest you do a Google search for ".dll is not a valid Windows image". This shows lots of sites where similar problems have been discussed (though none specific to Trainz). Maybe you could get some tech help from one of them?

Cheers guys, just spent the last 4 hours trying to find free registry repair software. What a nightmare, but anyway up and running woohoo. Thankyou to itareus for pointing me in the right direction, was much apreciated.

Sadly this could be a case of the new drivers and Directx being too new for the UTC to run properly. The video card manufacturer has updated drivers that solved bugs and added support for something else, but at the same time broke the support for older programs.

I've run into situations like this in the past with some printer drivers. The software needed the very old generic printer driver that came with Win95 original. When machines came in with Win95 later edition, the generic printer driver was "fixed". By this I mean that the driver no longer worked like it used to, and the program failed to print properly.

Such is the life of computers and software. What used to work just fine gets removed for the sake of progress.
