Re-install problem

I have just upgraded to Win 7 and re installed from disc, Ts2010, Murchison 2, The Blue Comet, S & C and the Duchess, all of which have been combined to run under 2010. All serial numbers entered correctly and no problem and patched up to 49933. Prior to upgrading, I saved my total 2010 installation to a 500gb external HDD. Having read somewhere previously on this forum all I needed to do now was to copy the user date file to the new installation so I copied it from the saved version to the user date file for the new installationwhich is in its own seperate folder on C drive. The Internet was unplugged and the A-V turned off and it took a little over an hour. There were may files and Kuids at the end of the transfer asking if they were to be skipped or replace so I selected' relace' as my 2010 installation had been error free.
After doing a full asset date base repair I opened CM to see what was what and while there were no errors or broken deps showing, there were 197846 files in the Out of Date file, each having the red downwards arrow over on the LH side of the menu.
A check then of the assets under Favourite locos showed only the in-built ones and all the ones I had added like Ben Neal's USRA etc were not visible
The same with the routes. Ones I had previouslydown loaded, both payware and freeware do not appear in the routes menu. The only ones that do are the ones off the installation discs mentioned above.
Anyone know what I've done wrong or failed to do and how to correct it? Cheers

You also need to put in the serial number (CD-Key) for the SnC, Duchess, and other packages you installed otherwise they won't show up in Trainz even though you copied them over to the new version.

John you obviously didnt read my post. It says all serial numbers were entered [for the cd's installed] and there were no problems.
I though it would have been quite obvious from my post that I knew a little about Trainz, not a lot mind you, but enough, especially as I said it was a re install, to know about the Favourites star, especially having Murchison and S & C which need the star 'unticked'.
Perhaps with that out of the way you may be able to draw on your extensive knowledge of Trains [I mean this as a compliment by the way, as I have read many of you posts] to perhaps recommend some other possible alternatives.
If indeed there are any. Do I delete the contents of the new install User date file and re install the saved one? If I do whay happens to the built in assets from the newly re installed games? Is it presumed they will be replaced by the re install from the previously saved files on the external HD.One reason I'm trying to do this is because one of the payware routes I purchased had 211 errors which I managad to fix or get fixed over a couple of months last winter and If I install it from a disc it will have all the errors again. I can do without that, and ther are many locos that I have changed the engine spec and sounds on so its quite important to me to try and find all this information or how to get it to show up. Is theer anything I could do in Surveyor that may show the files? Filters on or off etc. Cheers

Have you tried an Extended Database repair?

If you haven't already imported the content, you will need to use the Import Content or Import CDP methods in Content Manager.

When I bought a new computer I decided to copy the entire Auran directory which included TRS2004, TRS2006, TC3 and TS2010 to an external hard drive and then merely copy this to a second hard drive on the new Laptop. Some of the settings needed changing but I didn't even need to do a EDB repair. These had had some of the patches applied already so on the new PC I only had to install the SP2 to TS2010. This method saved me re-installing SnC, Murchison 2, The Blue Comet, Duchess, Coronation & PPR T1. Doing all this the conventional way would have taken at least a week. As it was The only thing I was missing was the CDP file icon but that was cured when I installed TS12.
I created new shortcuts to the launchers and within a few hours I was up and running.
If you still have your external hard drive files can you not do the same.

Nimec,

I apologize for not "reading" your post. I in fact did, but sadly I also took some new medication, which has made me somewhat wonky.

I agree with Shane. An EDR might be necessary to sync up the Assets.tdx with this copy of Content Manager.

In the past, I have just copied over the complete installation without any new installation. This kept everything intact, so there were no worries about serial numbers, etc.

The alternative to the above is to install a fresh copy, then import your content into CM. This can take some time, and you have to make sure you don't overwrite items, but instead skip them. Once the installation is complete, you can then put in your serial numbers for the subsequent add-ons you have.

From my original post 'After doing a full asset date base repair....... For 'full' read 'extended'. I have also downloaded the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for x86 & x64 but not Direct X9c yet, which I understood afffects the running of the trains rather than them appearing in the program after a copy and paste of the User Data folder. Perhaps Shane can enlighten me on this although as he hasnt already mentioned it, I assume it is not relavent my problem. I also mentioned in my original post that when the files were transferring, the options Skip or Replace came up for various files being transferred and that I selected 'Replace' each time.
It appears you are saying I should have selected Skip. If this is what I should have done then it would appear that my only option is to remove it all [again] and from the external HD this time re-install the complete saved 2010 Trains file as Ken has done. I still have it on the HD so other than the time it should not be a major but If I do that do I completely remove all traces of the new installation, including a registry clean? Cheers

As you mentioned that you upgraded to Windows 7, the next thing I need to check is that you have the game set to run as administrator.

You will probably still need to update DirectX (see my sticky) but this is mainly for in-game use, and should not directly affect the Content Manager, as there is a basic version of DirectX 9.0C already installed in Windows 7.

My tutorial website may come in helpful to you, as it covers (amongst other things) how to run the game as administrator.

The easiest way of checking if you need to change the Run as Administrator setting is to check if imported/downloaded content is still present after closing and reopening Content Manager.

Hello shane. My PC is set up to run as administrator and I also set Ts2010 up to run as administrator after install by:
right clicking on the Icon>properties> compatability> then down the bottom put a tick in 'Run as administrator' Is that adequate or have I missed something?
I see that the desktop icon also has the blue and yellow shield meaning ‘Change settings for all users’ showing.
I have not consciously clicked on it or turned it on that Im aware of and have only seen it yesterday. Should this be showing? Is it likely to be causing me not to see my updated User data file?

Re your comment 'The easiest way of checking if you need to change the Run as Administrator setting is to check if imported/downloaded content is still present after closing and reopening Content Manager.' I am under the impression that I have run as administrator set up and that it was set after the installation of 2010 before I added all the others like S & C etc. and definitely before I tried to colpyover the info from the UD file. There is no change after I open and close content manager which I have done qiute a number of times.
I have also opened Edit/serveyor and typed it the name of missing routes in the filter fields on the top LH side but nothing comes up. I know they are all there somwhere as it took so long to copy paste into the saved UD file into the new one however It looks like my only option is to take it all off and start again. Cheers

Can you check in the in-game Options box (Surveyor Settings tab) that the 'Only display favourite content' option is unticked.

Also, be aware that if the route is faulty, it will not appear if running in Native mode or using TS12.

Hello Shane. Tried that but it made no difference so made the executive decision and completely un installed it all. Interestingly it initially would not un-install and said it was corupted so Ihad to do a forced un-install and got rid of it all. Having made a number of changes to my PC e.g new MB, new HDDs, new videocard etc over the last couple of years I have installed 2010 many, many times and was meticulous in how I did this install and patch upgrades but something still not right. I have decided to forgo my saved copy with all my additions, repaired kuids, and downloaded routes and payware and start again. A solution has not been obvious but thanks for your interest. I have wasted over a week on it and its time to move on. This game is one of the most frustrating timewasting activities I've ever come across but, a very addictive one and being retired, I'm a busy person with a lot to do and not much time to give to frivolous activities !! Cheers
