Rare steam locomotive remains uncovered in Polk Co., Florida

Wow, now that's an amazing find! I'm not sure I'm totally in agreement with the decision to forego any restoration. The New Zealand Goverment Railway pushed a bunch of older Roberts-built 2-4-2s into the Oreti river to stabilize the banks, and years later, some enthusiasts dug two of them out: No. K88 (The "Washington" that the late billegulla made a model of) and the No. 92. They weren't buried nearly as long as this guy, but there is the point they were both buried in wet, Peat-moss infested ground beside a river. I'd think It would at least be feasable to put her back together and make her look good again...like she did in the 1880's, mind you.

good point. i didnt mean to make it sound as if it wasn't important or anything, just find it odd that its a new story on some news sites.

I was just kidding, but that's my humor anyway. Sorry if I sounded a bit put off about this...

It is a bit odd, but interesting that some news hangs around forever, or at least until you need to quote it for a post somewhere then it disappears even from Google search.

Trains got buried in Florida back in the day, there's another locomotive under the Wells-Fargo building in downtown Jacksonville.
