Railyard possibilities?

Hi

I'sd like to use the program to set up an operating railyard from scratch and a few distant businesses to deliver to and haul from. I have no intention of driving the train. I want to run it as if it's a large model train layout. Is that posible with one of the programs? and if so, which would be the best? Thanks.

yup... that's possible... If you haven't already, purchase a copy of TRS (either 04 or 06), install it, update it with the correct updates according to instructions, run it, click on Surveyor and start creating. Be sure to check out the manuals on the CD for more information on using the tools to help you get going.

Once you have created your creation, you can fire it up in driver and have a play.

Pop back in here if you have any questions.

yes if you dont want to drive the train you can have AI system control it.
but because there as dumb as a box of rocks and have no i dea what they are doing you will have to make modification to make them do what you want

Another thing to keep in mind is using a lower poly track if you are creating a large yard. This will help with smoother frame rates.

I'm working on the UP yard in Cheyenne, WY and it's quite mind boggeling, especially with the connection to the BNSF yard to the north. The possibilities are pretty amazing.

What I'm trying to do is to create a layout and then run it as if they were toy trains. I want to be able to control several trains at once on a large layout. I don't want to actually "drive" one, but rather control several. That is I might send one train on it's way to another part of the layout and continue switching cars around on the spurs with another while allowing yet another train to circle around the board. I'd like to have several locos waiting to be operated on the spurs or in a roundhouse. I just want it to work like a very large HO scale train layout that I can watch from overhead as if I'm in my basement. I would never put myself into the cab of any of them.

Another question: Are the industries animated? Can I for instance see coal be loaded or goods being lifted from flatcars?

Yup you can see loads being loaded and unloaded at an industry.

yea thats what AI Drivers do. you can control one while the others have assigned jobs they do on there own. but you can watch them do it.
you can make them wait for a certain time or until another loco does it job triggering another loco to do something. you can tell them to drive somewhere theres endless of possiblity what you can do with AI Drivers they are just dumb and you have to do certain things to make them do what you want.
or you can give all AI Drivers a job and watch them do what you told them too.

I wouldn't know, only have 2006 SP1, why not get both?

However, to add some more on the previous tips - there are more rules to get on the download station to implement that can enhance the sim further and don't miss the "Session and Rules guide" pdf on Auran 2006 page.

DL my Rhye on Sea Layout
This is only small ( 1 board ) and set in UK steam time
but it is the kind of thing you are looking for, it may give you a slant on the direction to take, mind you there are a lot of other layouts like this to DL some are quite big, and most of them can be used like you would like, but at the end of the day there is a lot of satisfaction in building your own, if you need help you will always find somebody on this site that try to help you but try to give as much info to them as possible that way you will get a quick and better solution

but the main thing is have fun !!!!:D
