What a truly wonderful piece of unashamed nostalgia. I enjoyed every minute of this thread.
I know that it couldn't be justified to keep every line of the Beeching era but there was a lot of short sightedness. Just thing of all the population movements since then where rail would have been a boon. Okay, that is hindsight but in amongst the wholesale closures there were big mistakes and communities that lost their lines became backwaters.
