Rail Driver

Anyone recommend it? I'm considering buying one to run with my TRS2009. Are there any bugs? Is it worth it? I guess my big question is, I like to run locals and I really like to use external views while I'm switching, am I able to operate with the Rail Driver and in the cab control mode from a free roaming camera view?

The Mother of All Desktop Controllers....

 Hello Joe, on the locomotive selected you can operated inside, outside & have all the buttons you see on the heads up display(HUD) onscreen.

Switching, shunting is easier because you have the advantage of an independent brake lever to help control speed.

You have a working light switch, but I never have run a locomotive that would run wipers by the wiper switch.

The pantograph key will open & close the front cab door on a RRMods locomotive if so equipped.

The Range switch on the far left switch pannel controls the cab camera.

The price is rising to $199 at Walthers so I'd make it sooner than later...

I don't think the wiper switch is active in TRS because there isn't a key to operate the wipers. But other than that they are a very useful tool :)

When the wipers are activated by the pantograph function, you can assign a key for the use of same.

Are you asking if there are any bugs in RailDriver? I find that curious considering 2009 contains more than enough bugs for everyone!:D

Great advice. Thanks. I'm curious to know if 2009 supports raildriver without any errors. Believe it or not I like 2009 despite the rediculous bugs it has. I also would like to know if you still can use a keyboard and mouse while using rail driver. Like I said I like to free roam with the camera so I don't want to loose that ability.

Yes you can still use the keyboard as wel as rail driver - they are not mutually exclusive - they work in parallel.

addendum...

 You have 28 buttons the list is too long to mention...you can get a free download to change the paper list that goes behind the windows from black numbers on white to white numbers on black background.

These buttons mimic the actions of the HUD on-screen. I wish these were lit, but as for now they are not...extra cost.

You don't loose anything, all four viewpoints are covered by four buttons

You pan & zoom using a two way & four way rocker switches...free-interior cam is the way to go.

The only time I use the keyboard is to lap the brakes & using the find object tool, or to Ctrl+Z for details on traincars or objects & take screenshots.

You can switch the onscreen interface on or off with RailDriver as well as screen labels at switches, etc.

You have seven AI Driver buttons to switch between trains.

Here is the Support Page for RailDriver, take a look at the several web pages of info from there.

WOW  $200? Kind of pricy. For that kind of money it better mix a drink for you when your waiting at a signal.

Well I ordered mine the other day and just recieved it and I have to say it's pretty sweet! I wish there was a way to know what throttle position the controls were in but I'm sure I'll get used to it quick. Definitely makes switching and operating in general significantly more fun!

As a forward to anyone looking to buy this in the future, it does come with TRS2009 drivers on the CD. So you don't have to search around the internet for days for drivers to get this thing to work, which was my biggest fear...
