Questions about wheelbarrows, accessories and water tanks.

Are there any water tanks that simulate filling a steam engine's boiler when the train stops at the tank?
How does one set up AI session water stops with operating water tank action for locomotives?

Are there any "operating accessories" for TANE besides turntables? OPERATING ACCESSORIES (a term borrowed from model railroading and electric train sets) is generally associated with the track side industries that provide loading and unloading action for freight cars, passenger loading/unloading and other track side actions. Can a simulation of loading and unloading logs from cars be made?

Is there a Trainz working sawmill that turns logs into lumber similar to the one Lionel Trains used to offer? Can inter-modal stack-able container loading/unloading be simulated? Coal hopper loading/unloading?

Trainz, after all, is just another form of model railroading.

Is there a spot on any route where a wheelbarrow might be fitting? Are wheelbarrows part of the tools of real railway track construction and maintenance workers?
Wheelbarrows, not generally packaged in Trainz simulator games at retail, are offered at the DLS so I thought I would ask.

The Search function is your friend.

For sawmills, search for terms like "sawmill", "saw mill", "mill", "lumber". Some are animated and simulate loading of products, some are static.

For container/intermodal action, search for "container", "intermodal". Try adding a 2nd search parameter of "crane" as well. Some container cranes are animated, some static.

For coal, try "tipple", "coal loader".

You'll have to wade through many items to find the one you want, but that is part of the appeal (and frustration) of Trainz route-building. And sometimes you can't find exactly what you want, that's also part of Trainz.

Downloading routes and searching through them can reveal assets to use. A route that is listed as being a logging route is likely to have sawmills. A route that is set in coal country will have coal related assets, etc.

As for wheelbarrows, put them wherever you think they might be found. You are the Almighty Creator of your route, so do whatever looks good to you. All of use have different ideas of what is "right" for a route.

There are well over 70,275 building assets, which would include: tools, wheelbarrows, carts, people, trees ... etc ...

There are several operating water tanks, coaling towers, sawmills, slash burners, log dumps ... etc ...

There's a 'water column' included in TANE for the Healesville route, which is industry active (will load the locomotive's tender or tanks), which should be used with any scenery water tank (there's three different ones included with the Healesville route). The column and tanks are all found in the scenery tab, with 'VR' at the start of the name.

There's also a few others, most would be named 'water tank' or 'water column' or 'standpipe' or similar.

Most assets will have a common term in the name, so a search in Content Manager should turn up most assets that you might be after. The main exception will be assets with non English names, which can vary a little.

Do AI drivers automatically stop steam locomotives at water tanks whenever they "think they need to" or do they have to be issued commands to do this?

You have to tell them.

AI is as smart at the person giving it instructions. If you do not tell it to do something it will not do something.

In Trainz ... absolutely NOTHING, is automated, and runs automatically ... You will just have to wash that notion completely out of yer' mind, and vocabulary

Well, I tried to tell Willie the Gimp to drive to the nearest track-side water tank (loco water) but he did absolutely nothing. It was 200 feet in front of him. I wanted to see if the QR water tank would operate when he stopped there.

You have to fine tune, place a trackmarker, and name it, and "Drive To" that water tower trackmarker

Or drive manually

Not all water towers, coaling towers ... etc ... are animated

I just placed Dreddman's QR water tank on my test route and reconnected the track to it, then added one of my locos and told the driver to navigate to the tank. The driver did that and the hose lowered as expected. The hose positioning was wrong as it's intended for a centreline tank. One of my other locos has an animated water tank lid in its tender and you can drive it to the tank so the hose lowers and the lid opens as well. Usually I do that with manual control as I think it might be difficult to get the positioning right with AI.

You need to look for assets that are Kind Industry. These, like Dreddman's, usually have a trigger point that activates the animation.

Maybe Willie was on a break. :D

There is (or was) a "NZR 12,000 gallon" or similar name water tower built into TS12, which is interactive. Presumably this works in TANE if downloaded/imported (not tested personally).
