Questions about content submitted to Download Station for distribution.

My layout has been submitted to N3V for consideration to distribute copies via the Download Station to other people. It is in CDP form. This is a route created by me in TS12 with "modified" assets. These modified items include locos and speeders with modified sounds and custom bogie movement parameters in config. Will these same modified items show up when the Trainz route is downloaded to another party? Does the CDP file of a route retain all its dependencies including specially-modified items?

Also, a session was bundled by me along with the route in the same CDP. I take it this particular session follows the route package also. The session is basically Default except is has Display Custom HUD added.

My route/HO-scale layout is also provided with a detailed description.

N3V can accept it or reject it.

Hi John
Unless you specifically included them in the cdp file, then no the route will not include any of the dependencies. As such, it won't include any of the modifications to the content either :) The DLS would reject the upload if any content that has a different UserID in it was uploaded anyway (of course, if the content was 'cloned' when modified, it would end up with your UserID).

My entire layout has content by other authors under other authors' ID's except for the speeders which were cloned by me. I am not about to go back and clone everything else and replace everything else. It might be too late. All my texture, track, track-side objects, non-spline objects (cars, boats, trucks, bicycles, tractors, earth-movers, horse-drawn vehicles, tools, light fixtures, buildings, signs, people, animals, trees, etc.) , splines, train vehicles (except for the speeder) are under the ID of somebody else. If DLS won't accept my layout for whatever reason I will post it for download at a third-party hosting site along with any special cloned/modified assets within my layout not available at DLS or packaged in Trainz 2012 by default.

Only if you have the original creator's permission to clone and distribute their assets. Otherwise they will be taken down.

Modifying other peoples work and redistributing it in any means without permission from the original creator is quite simply a big no no. Get permission from each individual or don't upload anything to any file repository.

Very well. DLS can reject my layout then. You are saying I should not host this stuff at any 3rd-party site also? I could get into trouble?

You will be able to upload the route (and session if applicable) if they are created by you. The other assets will be listed as dependencies so that users can download these from the Download Station if they are present or from elsewhere.

You can upload the route to the DLS, no problem. Any assets produced by other users that you have modified but not cloned won't have changed since the route will reference said assets and download the version from the DLS. You yourself cannot re-upload these assets under your own KUID without permission from the original author. You would get in trouble eventually for it.

Seems as good a thread as any, as I too have a question about uploading. Never done it before, many reasons most creators are familiar with. So for the first time I have uploaded just a route. The thing is I just went with what was inbuilt and stuff from the Download Station and nothing else.

I have two emails from Auran, both sent at the same time. One says approved, which appeared first, then moments later, the second with this:

Your uploaded content is currently waiting approval. During the automated processing of your file the dependencies were checked and the below report was produced.

This report lists your content that has dependencies which are not currently on the Download Station:

Content: Somerset District 1 <KUID:104058:100007>

Dependencies:
- <KUID:103475:22028>
- <KUID:103475:22029>
- <KUID:103475:24031>

It then goes on to list over 200 dependencies.

Finally it says:

Please Note: The above creators have been notified and a request has been sent for them to upload their content.

The question presents itself, how on green earth does my route have dependencies not found on the Download Station when, as I first said, I only used TANE Standard Edition inbuilt and maybe the 60 or so items retrieved from the DLS. I did not import backups or cdp files from previous versions, so there could be no 'contamination' from there, nor do I have any other versions installed.

What are the consequences of waiting for over 200 dependencies to be further uploaded? I'm thinking stripping out all the offending objects would wasteland what I have done.

Or like John F Kennedy do I ignore the second message and focus on the first? ie it will be ready in 24 hours regardless.

Those built-in assets are... built-in the installation of TANE and not available on the DLS.
Nothing to worry about; I suggest you ignore that message.

I do see what you mean. It didn't mention that it was built-in objects causing this, just a general, "hey, there is stuff in here not available on DLS." So followed the confusion.

But yeah, the built in would not be available hence turning up in the "not available" report. Does this happen for all content creators when they upload? Do they see this report with maybe hundreds of dependencies not available?

Anyway good stuff.

The route announcement was here by the way:

Thanks heaps.

Once op on a time I did this project that used only built-in assets. So yeah, seen those before :hehe:.

What I suggest is to check the dependencies in your Content Manager (or Manage Content in TANE) and check if any of them are flagged as "Locally modified". Those are either.. well... locally modified or are from 3rd party sites. I think that is the only way you can check if you might want to consider posting where those 3rd party KUIDs are found or exchanging assets to built-in / DLS assets.

Hi just want to add a comment:

Check out the authors license details of the kuid asset.
Some authors allow the user to clone the assets for re-skinning and modding.
If this is so then clone the asset and modify, then upload to the download station for approval.

Also want to mention that downloaded freeware kuid assets from the DLS (for example rolling stock) can be tweaked up with the PEV tools so that they perform better in Trainz Simulator 12.
Trouble is if you use the modified assets (original kuid not cloned) in the uploaded route then the members that use them will have the official dependent assets as is on the DLS station, and not the modified ones.
The route most likely runs well on your own PC but would be rough running on other members PC.
Most members who are technically minded would realize this and would clean up the kuids for their personal own use.
