Question Re. PROTO LARS INDUSTRY TRACK

I could not find one where the Proto-Lars Industry track can be customized for commodities that I created. The "Mega pack" offered at their site did not include one where I can select the commodities from ones that are available, as you can do in the Multi-Industry tracks.

Is there one that is customizable?

Can someone post a link where I can download one . . . if it exists?

Thanks

Imporing into 2009 . . . How?

OK . . . I read the instruction on how to create a "custom industry" track, but I am using TS2009. Unlike 2004, there are no "world" or "custom" folders as indicated in the instruction.

Do I create the folder containing my new industry under "editing" ? Then commit the new asset from there?

I was under the impression that ALL new assets had to be "Imported" into 2006 or 2009. How would I do that, since the newly created industry is not a CDP file format.

I can do the part about "creating" a new industry. But I am confused about getting it into 2009.

Has anyone done this in 2009 ??

I can't be the first guy to attempt this . . . please help.

Thanks

Hi again Edion,

You dont need a CDP to import content. You can use CM2's 'File'/'Import Content' and select the folder containing the content you want imported.

Do I create the folder containing my new industry under "editing" ? Then commit the new asset from there?
Sort of, yes, Let CM2 create it for you.

There are many ways to do it so I will list one way that I use at times.

The steps to get you there may be:
1. in CM2 click File/New

1a. If CCP loads properly then Fill in the details as needed all through the CCP page. Click File/Save in CCP, then click File/Exit

1b. If CCP wont load then you need to install dotnetfix to use it, (using CCP is NOT mandatory but it does make life easier) click Ok 2x to dismiss the error screens

In either event you now have a config.txt (in some 'Editing' folder contained in your 09 folder).

2. Right click your 'New Asset', select 'Edit in explorer'.

3. Put in all your bits and pieces.

4. Finalize your config.txt.

5. Commit as needed.

6. Test in Surveyor. Is your asset there? NO? Return to 3 or 4, do NOT pass go, and no jumping ahead to step 7!!!

7. Have a beer or beverage of choice to celebrate!!

Hope this helps, time for MY beer now :)

My 2 cents below...

It is also possible to create in trs04 or 06, get it running in there, then import from that version. It might be wise to try in 04 first if you do have it. My reasoning is if it works in the version it was intenderd to work then it should be a small step forward to get it going in 09. Any problems you may encounter and look for help on in the the forums most likely would be talking about 04/06, so you wont have to translate the instructions/fixes into 09 terminology. If it works in 04/06 it SHOULD work in upwards versions with slight modification (if it will work at all).

Hi Edion2,

Lenny's advice is very good for content creation in general and you should save it for when you move beyond the CDK. It will come in handy. You have a much easier path through. Just create the folder as described in the instructions on your desktop rather than the custom folder. To get it into TRS06 or TS09 just use the Import Content command in CMP or CM2 to import the newly created folder and then commit your creation if needed. You can commit an asset open for edit with the Crtl-m shortcut. After you get your creation into the game you can use the Open for Edit in Explorer command to open it in the editing folder where you can make changes and the commit the asset again for more testing.

ProtoLARS works fine in TRS2006, I'm not sure about TS09 but I have not heard that it doesn't work so I guess you're a beta tester.

Have fun.
William

P.S. I just tried to import the template into TS09 and it complained about the icon0 reference in the config. Just remove the whole icon0 line and the reference in the KUID table to it. Then it listed a missing dependency but it looks like that KUID isn't used so you can remove it from the KUID table or change the reference to a product that you are using. The CDK then committed without error. It shows in surveyor and can be placed and clicking on it with the properties tool opens the panel as expected. Looks like it will work.

Also check out Philskene's ProtoLARS Industrail on the DSL. It loads and unloads a ton of stuff. Since he is making TS2009 routes these days I'm sure he can answer any questions about using it and with his permission you can release your variant.

Thank you guys !

I understand. It worked !

I was wondering about the "icon0" . . . Now I can delete that line without worries.

Editing config files . . . it scares me. Its like walking on tight rope . . . ONE wrong move and your asset drops into a canyon like the Coyote in Roadrunner ! :'( No pain . . . No gain :hehe::hehe::hehe:

P.S. BTW all ProtoLars industry tracks that are already on my route woks fine in 2009.
