I name my portals - did it yesterday. Used the place where you get a portal (objects list, little house on the right fly-out) and the naming is done when you select your portal'. Select, place, size, name.
If you are using Surveyor 2.0, you need to use the Info Panel to name the portals and other industries and not the properties as it was done in Classic.
