Question For the Forum

The answer to my question just might help me better understand the Auran Trainz DLS....

I click on DLS and then Locos.....I see a loco that I would like to have on my pooter....it is called Yosemite Valley 2-6-0 29 kuid:45588:2040....So I download it along with its one dependencie. I check it for missing dependencies and find FIVE. I go to the DLS to download them and they are not found on the DLS. I go to Google.com and there is nothing there either.

Can someone tell me why this situation even exist??? What sense does this make????

Maybe someone from Auran can answer this question.

Trying to understand,

Harold

G'Day Harold,
I, out of curiosity downloaded and installed Yosemite Valley 2-6-0 and got the same result as you. I notice that all of the missing items are by the same author, so you could contact him and ask nicely if he could possibly let you have those files or suggest alternatives.
Let us know how you go.
Regards
Barrie

It is not very difficult to understand at all really. The original locomotive was build by bdaneal and he offered his locomotive on his very own website.

With permission CincySouthernRwy made a new skin for this locomotive and uploaded the skin, not the locomotive, to the DLS. In order for you to get the locomotive to show up you'll need to download the original files by bdaneal from his website. This website is here: http://steammachine.com/bdaneal/

Have fun.

Sorry for the large image.... could a mod re size if necessary

Stationbeem.....how about taking a look at 45588:1988 RSD12 LS&I 1853. I downloaded it this morning. Is it a reskin only? Must be since it has the same icon as in your illustration.

Anything on the DLS that says "reskin" will require you to download the origional loco. If any body else can further any more info please do.

How do you mean as this is a reskin as well?

If you have downloded it and it works, that only means you all ready have the original loco downloaded on to your computer!

That is one of my big issues with the DLS... I think only content that is complete should be allowed to upload. In other words, if the asset is missing assets then deny the upload. I really dislike the fact that when you download a route or, in this case, even a locomotive you have to go searching for an hour or more to actually get it all to work. I will never buy another first class ticket because I no longer download routes from the DLS. To much of a pain.

I'm not trying to find fault with Auran or its DLS i'm instead trying to learn more as to how it functions. I download Yosemite Valley 2-6-0 29 kuid:45588:2040 and find out later that it is just a repaint. I have to go find all the dependencies. Now i download NSWGR 45 Class 60723:1295 which also has a repaint icon and it is a full download, all dependencies are available right there. May I add that it is a beautiful unit.

Oh well, maybe someday it will all make sense.
Thanks for the replys everybody.

Not true. All of my locomotives are original creations, yet they show up on the DLS as reskins. This is a problem that's been discussed before on the forum with no resolution. Just because it says that it's a reskin doesn't mean that it is.

Sorry for the confusion. Did a bit of experimenting last night and found out that leeferr is right about this re-skin game with the DLS. It's a pity that people spend all that time creating a loco only to find out that the DLS classes it as a re-skin. The issue has to be resolved some how.

Yeah, it's real disappointing to spend so much time on a steam loco, upload it nd then it appears on the DLS as a reskin.

Just found this topic after sending a loco to the DLS and it appeared with the reskin icon beside it. I declined the upload, and did this forum search, as I thought I must have a parameter wrong somewhere.
I see there are some locos available that aren't shown as reskins, so does anyone know what causes the flag to be set, and what's the point of it if it's so arbitrary?

Chris.
