Question for Andi06 and AJS crossings.

Hiyas.

I was wondering if Andi06 or anyone knows how I can make his AJS traffic light crossings work with sidewalk-enabled roads?

Note the magenta square outline I drew. See how the sidewalks mess up the crossing? I want the crossing to be similiar to the one in the upper right corner of the screenshot, with the pedestrian stripes and all. It would be perfect, since I'm building a dense urban area where there's a lot of intersections, and there's a need for crosswalks. The only pedestrian crosswalk I could find is the Epcot one, and its too big for my liking.

My trolley route is like this:

+-||-+

+ = the road-only crossings
- = road spline to connect the crossings
|| = double tracked crossing of trolley tracks + road

I was also wondering why there isn't a traffic version with traffic signals placed on the corners of the intersection, instead of right in the middle of the road? Just curious.

Right now, the only way for me to get the intersection I want is to place 3 seperate splines- one road and two sidewalk splines. However, for each intersection I have to use 12 seperate splines (3 per side). That's killing my framerate since in any given intersection area, I'm dealing with 24 splines for the road, plus two track splines and the catenary spline. Ouch! Plus, when I do the splines, it's an absolute nightmare trying to make the splines meet up perfectly at 90 degree angles since the AJS curved sidewalk corner is too big to fit the sidewalk spline I'm using. I haven't put down any pedestrian crosswalk splines. If I do that, the spline count will bump up to a staggering 32 splines within a 5 x 5 square region.

See how crazy it is in this screenshot? As it stands, I usually get 20 - 50 FPS in empty surveyor, then about 20 - 30 tops with the urban buildings, the two tracks, and a plain asphalt road (no sidewalks). Now I only get 10 fps tops if I'm lucky with all these sidewalk splines. And I'm not even done. I need to paint some kind of texture, add road signs, plant some trees and grass in the open spaces between the buildings, install fences right on the sidewalks to divide the trolley track area from the roads, and a few other comestic additions to the route section. That will probably make my FPS stay at 1 - 5 constantly. If I remove the excess sidewalk splines, then I can probably keep the 10 - 20 FPS rate with the comestic additions.

Can anybody shed light (no pun intended) on this issue, and whether it'd be even possible to have a revamped AJS crossing to allow for sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and cut down the spline count a lot?

don't worry, i get the same problem with urban areas....fps drops dramatically. i try to stay clear of these areas although sometimes its nessecary (sorry for mispelling), now that being said, i really have no idea how to correct it...but hey, at least your not the only one =)

Bump!

A computer meltdown wiped out all my Trainz stuff last month and I'm just getting back to Trainz now after letting off steam and such.

I still would very much like to know if it'd be possible to have mgreen's sidewalk + crossing intersection (in the screenshots above) blended with Andi06's traffic lights. Is such a thing even possible?
