Railroading is a throwback to more innocent times. Sure, there was still violence and indecency from day one, but it wasn't as pervasive nor as accepted as it is today. Model railroading (which is what we are all doing, in case you haven't noticed) is even more romanticized and often harkens back to the days when steam was being replaced by diesel power. That period in time harkens back to a more innocent age, made even more nostalgic as those years are portrayed in movies and television. Many of the members here have fond memories of those times as young adults, or children. They are happy to reminisce of the days when youngsters respected their parents, and neighbors watched and cared for everyone. Those brilliant days when country was important, when people helped one another, when everything was comfortable, familiar and life was good.
We all know what happened over the ensuing years. The media made certain to expose every rotten apple, the population increased, crime increased, and a culture of anti values grew like a virus in a petri dish. Now we've come so far as to embrace thuggery, crime and all the trappings of "wrong". Sex and drugs and "thug life" are celebrated and forced upon us by the media, by advertising and by our poor children who have been indoctrinated their whole life into this brave new world.
Not too many still have principles and live by them. I am heartened to read some of the replies here.
Get your dirt somewhere else, Lord knows it's pervasive enough elsewhere.
