question about products

Hi
We have a driver rule called Portal Dependency Rule which is brilliant.

Is it theoretically possible to have the same type of thing for products.
A kind of Product Dependency Rule.

I download a session and it crashes to desktop because I'm missing a product the creator of the session has used.

as far as I can see there is no way to source that product without pestering the guy who used it.

any comments.

Cheers

A Portal Dependency rule (on the DLS) is added to the bunch of rules used in a session and when opened accesses all the dependencies (rolling stock) used in the portals. It is useful because portal dependencies are usually "hidden" until they are generated, thus without this rule DLH simply looks for rolling stock already placed in the session and misses dependencies created in the portals. I'm sure you can see just how jolly useful this rule is.

Pretty much any dependency not found by DLH when the session is downloaded will crash the session when it is loaded in Driver. It is possible to load the session in Surveyor but then you have to know what you are looking for (rolling stock, product) which is usually NOT the case. Obviously the Portal Dependency rule covers rolling stock but it does not cover products. A variation of this rule that seeks out products used in a session would be worth its weight in gold.

Thanks for the Portal Dependency rule explanation.

I have downloaded several layouts from the DLS that were missing assets since I don't download dependencies from the DLS and certainly not from third party sites. Why? Hey, it is just my thing. I replace important missing stuff with built in stuff, or delete the layout.
I get the warning sign about missing dependencies which I ignore. I have never had Trainz or the computer crash because of it. But then I am not downloading sessions.
By the way, I do download rolling stock, both from the DLS and third party sites.
