Question about Baldwin Sharknoses...

Now T:ANE I can get into
Here's a tough one, but I'd like to know. As I've seen in pictures, when the Baldwin 'Sharks' were delivered, they all had two single-chime horns, one facing forward, one facing backward. Does anybody know if these horns were Leslie A200s, or Wabco E2s?

Thanks

Yes. I don't have any definitive answer, and I'm not sure you'll find one, as often manufacturers customized the horns as per the purchasing RR's specs. I have seen a pic of a PRR BF-15 (9579) with Leslie A-200, and PRR BP-20 (5779) came with Leslie A-200, but it was later replaced with a Leslie S-3L. Other roads might have specced the Wabco. Dallee Electronics (sellers of horn sounds for DCC and similar stuff) list the Leslie A-200, Leslie S-3, Wabco E-2, and Nathan K-3 as available for use with Baldwin Sharks. Doesn't mean all came with it as delivered from the factory, some might have been retrofitted later (as in the case of the Pennsy BF-15). I can say that at least ONE of the horns used on the Baldwin Sharks, as delivered, was the Leslie A-200, but that doesn't make it the only one. The Baldwin Centipedes came with Wabco E-2's, but were also retrofitted with Nathan M-3's.

Jeff, if I sent you a picture, do you think you would you be able to tell? I'm talking about certain sharks in particular.

hey blutorse I just stumbled across your post! The horns on an as delivered RF series locomotive, were E-2's. though I was told by a "know it all" they were Nathan "blats" (whatever model that is) and that WABCO never made a horn :hehe:
