PRR K4.s (Pre-war vs. Post-war)

This is something that has been an interesting subject for a while now in all sims and model scales. Which model do you (the Trainz community) like better? The pre-war or post-war K4.s Pacific?

Fred

And i'm the opposite actually. I love the post war versions, i like the clutter up front. i like the I1sa for the same reason. Sorry Jmeining, it's just my opinion.

now, let the war begin!!

Ditto! ;)

This thread is probably just like a "Railworks versus Trainz" thread, in that each person has his own personal favorite; there is thus no need to debate with and/or attack others about which is better, when each has his own personal favorite.

But there is nothing wrong with simply expressing that you favor one over the other that I can see, as long as you do not debate with or attack others over which one is better. Nevertheless, the moderators might want to keep an eye on this thread. ;)

Kind regards,

Retro00064.

Hi Retro.....

Read the very last line of my sig. (Not meant for you Retro)

Regards to you.

Well, I like clutter on the front of engines (especially the air compressors!), just I feel the K4 doesn't look as 'streamlined' as the pre-war, it looks good, just to me it looks more like a freight engine than a passenger engine.

and see, I'm more of a freight guy. I run passenger more to just foul up the schedules of my time freights (which is the reason they're there in the first place, right?:hehe: :D) and the more an engine looks like a frieght hauler, the more i like it.

now if it just had a centered headlight:D :D

I agree with the centered headlight, and maybe I didn't specify this, but what makes me not like the post-war K4 as much is that they swapped the headlight and the other thing around on the front, so that the headlight is on top of the boiler, not in front of. Plus, I do like freight, but I occasionally run passenger. The thing is, freight (to me) is more fun. With passenger, you get to go from station to station on a fairly tight schedule, with freight the schedule should be a little more loose and you also get to have many different loads on your train!

I like the pre-war, to me the post-war ones look a little weird on the front.

Same. The Pre-war K4.s with a heavyweight Broadway Limited is perfect! It looks so nice. the Post-war version looks like it ran into a wall and got it's headlight forced up.

Fred

my personal preference is the pre-war K4.

They were built the way Kiesel & Co. intended. ;)

But having either version available in Trainz would be a huge plus for all us SPFs ("Serious Pennsy Fan" or "Slobbering Pennsy Freak", depending on one's point of view).

They would even be a plus for anyone modeling other roads whose passenger trains used shared stations, so they could put an authentic loooking Pennsy consist at the station on another track. Assuming, of course, that they are modeling pre-1958 when the last K4s was retired.

Just my personal opinions; thanks for asking.

Actually, I make my answer both versions. I thought about it and the upright headlight does look just as good plus the "modern" version fit in better with the other PRR locomotives. As for what PRR325 said, either verion would be awesome in Trainz as long as I get my hands on some heavyweight coaches to reskin! :hehe: :p

I just saw a video on YouTube and the K4.s had a trainphone antenna on it. Did all of the post-war K4.s' have it? Because on the models I saw they lacked it.
