products/Commodities

There seems to be some difficulty in assigning a particular commodity to a given vehicle. e.g. When I go into products in Surveyor, I find that I can assign Wheat, Barley or oats to the GATX oill tanker but not to a grain carrying vehicle. The product listing changes with some items listed when looking at certain vehicles but not at others.
I give an example:

The CN or CP Grain trucks will only load/unload GRAIN HP, no other grain products such as wheat etc.
The GATX oil tanker, in addition to loading/unloading oil products can also be assigned to load/unload Wheat,Barley Oats etc although in an actual session it will only handle oil products.
Hence my dilemma.
I have created a session where I wish to load wheat at a silo and deliver to a flour mill

TASK - Load wheat at Silocomplex 1 and unload at Flour Mill.

PROBLEM - SILOCOMPLEX 1 OR 2 will only allow GRAIN HP to be assigned as a product/comodity to a grain carrying vehicle.
FLOUR MILL will only accept WHEAT,BARLEY, OATS or FLOUR BAGS as an unloading or loading item.

QUESTION 1 - Can Silocomplex commodity/product be altered to produce wheat etc and ,if so, HOW????
QUESTION 2 - Can Flour Mill commodities/products be altered to accept Grain HP and, if so, HOW????

Any advice would be appreciated on the basis that I am missing something or have highlighted a possible problem in TRS2006 that needs to be addressed by the experts.

Kind Regards...........Oldgrandad

In simple terms each product has a kuid and the list of loadable products is in the config.txt. LARS helps by standardising the products.

Add the kuid of the item you wish to load to the load list in the config.txt file of the wagon you wish to load.

See how you get on.

There is another way and that is to right click the wagon in surveyor then add in the product that way but you have to do it for each wagon. The first method is the best.

Well, yes, but understand that I'm responding on the basis that I'm using TRS2004 rather than '06 and hence am in total ignorance of this "Silocomplex 1".

Anyway:

"QUESTION 1 - Can Silocomplex commodity/product be altered to produce wheat etc and ,if so, HOW???"

Remove all tracks that are connected to the Silocomplex.

In Surveyor (you may have to download the track from the Download Station if it is not built into TRS2006) connect a short section of invisible track to one end of the track of the Silocomplex. It too will become invisible.

Remove the invisible track.

Position the LARS "BI2 Grain" (where BI = Basic Industry) kuid 30671:27220 over the Silocomplex invisible track.

Connect your track to the BI.

You will find that the BI2 Grain will support most grain products.

Tell us if this works,
Phil

Commodities/Products etc

Hi John & Phil,
I have managed to add a few items such as wheat, barley, oats and a number of others to the product list, but I am still confused by a couple of things.
Who/what is LARS?
While I was able to download BI2 Grain, I couldn't find a vehicle with that name to install on the invisable track !!!
What still mistyfies me is the fact that all the available products are not listed on each and every vehicle.
Prior to my getting into this puzzling situation, why, for example in Surveyor, could I see wheat & Barley among other products when looking at the gas/oil tanker, but not see it when looking at the grain truck???

I do appreciate your help, maybe my brain is getting too old to suss these things out!!!!

Hi,

If you havn't already, check the DLS for the NGXH Grain Hoppers, there's 2 of them there by DavidO, I just checked them out in TRS to see if they would carry Grain, they don't only Wheat, Oats and Barley but I could add in Grain HP (the only one I have installed) but clicking the black + sign to bring up the list of Products and selecting Grain HP from the list.

Hope this helps... :)

Hi OGD --

That BI2 Grain that you downloaded is an industry interactive LARS track.

To set up industries, LARS, ProtoLARS and interactive freight cars I prepared an illustrated tutorial. It can be seen at the World of Trainz web site:

http://www.worldoftrainz.com/Pages/Tutorials_TRS2004/LARS-ProtoLARS-TutTRS.htm

or it can be downloaded as a Microsoft Word file from the TrainzProRoutes "TPR Goodies" Forum at:

http://www.trainzproroutes.org/index.html

(note that registration, it's free, is required before the document can be downloaded from TPR).

This should explain how to set up your grain industries.

There are several North American grain cars on the Download Station. See, for example, those by cnr which have animated loading hatches and animated bottom dump hoppers:

The route is the BesideTheRiver Subdivision of Austral Bay.

Tell us if you manage to get the whole shooting-stick running or if you need more help.

Hi Phil & AussieNightcrawler,
Many thanks for your replies.
I have downloaded & installed the NGXH Grain Hoppers and was pleasantly surprised to find the XPT, Explorer & Endeavour trains created by DavidO. I had hoped to one day find and build a route around them.

Phil, I am going to print the tutorial you recommended, but where do I go to download the complete LARS & ProtoLARS system? I would find that very interesting to work - would keep an old brain working.

Trainz is open ended. There are a few basic products built-in but many have been created, search the DLS for examples. When wagons are created you can add a loadable product to the config.txt file or you can add them in surveyor.

LARS greatest advantage to my mind is a way to have only one product of a particular type, otherwise you end up with 23 different grain products produced by 23 different content creators. In other words the farm creates a product that a mill can accept. It has other advantages as well but that one is the basic one.

OGD --

As John says, Trainz is a very open ended system.

The original creator of LARS and ProtoLARS was LLJ - if you do a search of the Download Station with "LLJ" as the Username you will find a mass of material. Others have also added industries, products and freight cars.

If you do want to try sessions that involve LARS, I'd suggest my Urban IndustRail; search under "philskene". You will find quite a few sessions that involve transporting products and material from one industrial area to another.

Be warned, though, that the download for the route and all that goes with it is quite sizable - around 150MB - though there are numerous routes that are considerably bigger than this. A substantial part of the download are the LARS products. The 20ft and 40ft container packs, for example, are almost 20MB in size.

If you do try any of my sessions, make sure you look at the maps and readme file in the folder container the route. If you have trouble finding the folder, as some do, just drop a note here.

Best,
Phil

Puzzled

I have used this reply method because I am unable to find a means for starting a new post. Advice in this matter would be very much appreciated.
The problem I have is to do with TC. I find that I can download a loco in trs2006 and see it in 06 Railyard, but if I import to TC I don't see it in TC's railyard and of course, can't place it on track. I find this applies to a number of rolling stock items. Also, I have found that I can only download one loco (QR2100) from TC's DLS but not NSW freight rail 42004. The NSW Endeavour class and the Millenium class downloads OK but wagons, such as NQJX,NQOY, NQSX while the indication is that the download was successful, in fact, they can't be seen in Railyard nor placed on track.
I really need help with this problem as I am having a frustrating time trying to get TC to work properly.

Hi again OGD --

Make sure you are logged in to the forums (top right hand side).

Go to the Trainz Classic forum.

Towards the top left you will see "New Thread". Click on this and fill in the boxes that appear.

A quick response to your question --

TC does not have many/most of the built-in assets that were in TRS2004 and 06. If the rolling stock that you have downloaded requires dependencies that are not built into TC those items will not show.

Remember that Auran's intent with TC was just to provide a route or two and little else.

However, if you search the TC forum there does seem to be a way of importing all the assets from 06 into TC.

Good luck,
Phil

By the way, did you solve the interactivity issues?

oldgrandad --

Well, yes, but understand that I'm responding on the basis that I'm using TRS2004 rather than '06 and hence am in total ignorance of this "Silocomplex 1".

Anyway:

"QUESTION 1 - Can Silocomplex commodity/product be altered to produce wheat etc and ,if so, HOW???"

That's not the way I would do it...

I'd use CMP to find and open for edit in explorer the 'silocomplex 1' object,

find the config.txt for 'silocomplex 1',

open it,

Go back to CMP and find the product you want to add to the industry and note it's KUID number.

go back to the config.txt of Silocomplex 1 and put it in the products queue.

save, commit and test.

regards

Harry

Thanks Phil, I will take notice of your advice. You answered my main dilemma as to why I could load some rolling stock but not others.

And, yes I did solve the interactivity issues some time ago. However since the forum site crashed last year and was re-built I have always had a problem posting any new threads or posts.

Hi oldgrandad, I highly recommend hopper cars from majekear (kuid:56063). They are animated both loading & unloading and are nicely detailed. Before downloading them check which version it was made for, 2004 or 2006. All the cars are capable of loading the products you're looking for. Remember have fun.

Hi Pop Pop, Questions answered, thank you. The matter of the vehicle loading was one I lodged some time ago. The other matter re importing content ex 06 to TC, I am currently occupied with. I think that I will be one of many who will be hoping for a Sevice Pack in the future to address some of the TC issues. I had thought that the DLS for 2006 and TC would be the same, but obiously not.
