Problems With TRS 2004

Okay before I ask my question, has anyone else noticed the headers on the forum turned to weird characters (like when you load e.g. a Japanese website and you don't have the characters installed). I'm using Firefox 7.

Okay now for my Trainz problem. I've just upgrade to TRS 2004 from Trains 1.3 (before anyone comments its because this is the highest spec my PC can realistically cope with when creating large maps and has the best selection of DLS rolling stock I'm after).

I've managed to import just about everything from 1.3, my entire map created in 1.3 has rendered fine, all of the textures topography and buildings included without any distortions (except 1 or 2 spline gradients but thats easy enoough to sort), infact the 2004 installation asked to import all the custom and dispatcher content. The only problem I can see that has arisen is that all of the water has vanished from the map - is this normal?

The main problem I'm having is with some rolling stock. In the error log I'm getting the report line:

Reskin asset Downloads/kuid2 45317 156514 1 is missing its original asset (<kuid:-13:183>)

kuid: -13:183 is a BR MK3 coach, identified as SP3 content in the download page (though this item requires a 2004 serial number). I'm also curious that this is stated as a locomotive in the description but has no engine dependencies. I have other rolling stock installed with SP3 content dependencies (including Mk3 I'm sure) that are not causing problems.

I've also had error messages "missing username in package" when installing several Strathclyde/SPT BR class 318 EMUs although they seem to have installed okay - any ideas what is causing this?

No problems here with the forum text (I'm also using Firefox), have you updated Java recently ?

kuid: -13:183 is a 'built it' item with TRS2004 so it should not be missing.

"missing username in package", just means that the config file doesn't have an identifying name.
Installing Tafwebs 'TrainzObjectz' will help you sort out these problems, you can download it from the 'Software' section of his site ..........

2004

There's nothing wrong with 2004, I still use it even though I have all the newer versions listed in my signature.
I started with the original Trainz, then moved to UTC (which I was told was the bees knees) and then they brought out 2004. What a change, and all for the best.
So good luck with your new Trainz version.
Usually the lower kuid start numbers are built in so it should be there. As Blackwatch said, go get TO and you won't look back, I still use it a lot.

Thanks for the tip I'll try our TrainzObjects.

The text on the menus just turned weird the other day, just wanted to rule out any issues with the site. I guess I'll need to run some updates.

Another question. I have several maps showing in the surveyor mode (including those included with the installation) that are not showing up in the driver mode. Looking at the menus I'm guessing I maybe need to create a session and load that to drive a train - does this mean I cannot switch immediately between consists like in v 1.3 without leaving the driver session and opening a new one?

Might have helped if I'd realised I could use download helper by clicking on the "download" link rather than using FTP (which I notice now after manually downloading a load of rolling stock dependencies yesterday) doh!

Now I have a new problem with kuid2 45317 156514 1 - I'm getting "Error: Content Requires Paintshed" in the helper dialog box. However I have PaintShed installed and I'm able to use it. Other rolling stock that requires paintshed, which I installed manually, are showing up in the simulator without any problems.

I just had this issue for the first time the other day and it drove me crazy. I think there is a simple fix. Check the drop down menu in the lower left corner of the forums. It threw me for a loop because the changes stay unique for each browser you're using.

Thanks that sorted it. It was set on Chinese rather than English, don't know how that happened! I tried the forum in [turns head to the side and spits] Internet Explorer earlier and the page was fine.

Paintshed

I think you have to create something in Paintshed before TO will recongise it. I have it installed but TO insists it isn't and I have not made anything in it.

I've tried creating some MK3 coaches in Paintshed. These are now showing up in the error log as "missing its original asset (<kuid:-13:183>)"

The odd thing is I can use the MK3 BR Intercity coaches, though I'm not sure if these are included with the game or imports of the ones I had downloaded for Trains 1.3 (as there's a picture of an intercity HST loco behind the Mallard on the CD case), either way isn't the original asset the same?

I think I'm just going to have to wipe and reinstall everything.

I reinstalled TRS2004 without importing content from 1.3 as I'd done before and now have the included blue MK3 intercity rolling stock which was missing in the first installation (no idea why but its fixed now), so now paintshed versions of these appear properly in Railyard. What I don't understand is although these were missing in the first install, the final Intercity livery rolling stock I'd downloaded for 1.3 were working fine.

TrainzObjects certainly helped but I have a little problem with it - if I allow it to correct configuration errors, some reskinned versions of BR MK1 coaches don't show up in Railyard. If I install the cdp files again problem solved (but TrainzObjects flags a config error again). Clicking "no to all" is an easy enough task but I'm a little curious as to why TO flags this.

TO error message: "Space missing in obsolete table entry which might stop the object working correctly"

I think I've nailed the water problem I suspect it may be an OpenGL issue. The game keeps crashing if I use DirectX (I have version 9.0c installed) so it seems I need to replace my graphics card. Its only 32mb not the required 64 although OpenGL runs okay.
