Problems with AI Trains Never Passing My Train

I have been running up and down the Mojave Subdivision. Typically, I drive a way freight, stopping along the way to pick-up and drop-off cars. While this is happening, trains arrive and depart through portals at each end.

I started to notice that some trains coming towards me, don't ever pass me, but then later, I see them long past me. I am not talking about overtaking me, I am talking about trains passing me in the opposite direction.

Usually, I don't like to look where other trains are, I like to see them appear, just like a real engineer would.

As an example, I left Mojave, heading west towards Bakersfield. I knew there were two freight trains heading east, and I should pass the first at about the Walong Tehachapi Loop. I went long past the loop, thinking at each passing siding, I should come across the freight. I saw no other freights until I got to Bealville. Since I was suspecting this problem, I had paid close attention, not to miss a train passing by me somewhere when I was not looking. At Bealville, I knew something was wrong. I looked to see where the two freights were. One was east of Walong and the other was at about Woodford. Both of these trains should have passed me, but I never saw them.

This kind of thing only happens with about one out of four AI trains from portals. About 3/4 of the time, it works fine.

Do any of you have these kinds of problems? Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

Thank you
Dean

Well, that's the oddest thing I think I've read! I remember long ago I had a similar issue running Trainz on an under powered PC, some AI trainz would not appear, or would appear in part, or suddenly come into view depending on the scenery load in the area. I'm pretty sure you're not running under powered, but this is all I can think of!

As I continue to figure out this problem, I am also finding that trains disappear. I believe I found what is causing the problem, and it is strange. I think it may have to do with the "RepeatZ" command.

While my above problem was happening, I had two commuter trains running. One was going back and forth between Bakersfield and Caliente, with intermediate stops. The other was going back and forth between Mojave and Tehachapi, with intermediate stops. In the past, I had been inputting their list of commands for each run. Recently, I added the "RepeatZ" command to both of them. I thought this was working fine. I thought the commuter trains were zippping back and forth without problems. However, after closer examination, they would get stuck on pauses (most stations had a 2 minute pause entered). After I would save, and quit, then return to the session, they would continue on.

As my original post stated, I was not looking at how the other trains were doing on purpose when I had the problems with freight trains not passing me. I had not known that the commuter trains were getting stuck with endless pauses until I quit the session and then returned.

Last evening, I eliminated the communter trains. After that, all of the freight trains seemed to be working perfectly. None of them disappeared, and none of them passed me without me seeing them.

This all may be a coincendence, but it seems to me that "RepeatZ" with the commuter trains was causing problems with the freight trains.

I would like to hear your opinions.

Try the plain repeat/enable repeat command, or have a go at the schedule library.

I tried to mimic your problem but had no luck, but then I'm not too sure what this "Repeatz" thing is you have as I only ever use the bog standard Trainz "Repeat" command that works perfectly....

I used the repeat term incorrectly. I think I got it mixed up with "PrioritZ." I apologize for the mixup.

The repeat command I was actually using is called "Enable Repeat" and it uses an infinity (sideways 8) symbol. As I said before, it may be a coincidence, but since I eliminated the enable repeat commands, things have been working perfectly.

I now have my commuter trains arriving from portals. The portals give them the list of commands. They stop at all of the stations, then return, and head back out a portal. That way, the repeat command is not used, but the commuter trains continuously repeat their sequences by having new ones arrive from portals.

Since I have been doing it this new way, there have been no problems with disappearing trains, or with trains passing me without me knowing it.

I am now convinced there is something wrong with "Enable Repeat." I posted this question about a month ago. I have since been running the Mojave Subdivision without any of these problems (without using "Enable Repeat"). I just recently tried a passenger train with an "Enable Repeat" command. Suddenly the freight trains from the portals started disappearing again, or were suddenly long past my train, and I never saw them go by.

I have seen no other coments about this, so apparently, I may be the only one having problems with this, but I know not to use "Enable Repaet" in the future.

Hi Dean

The Enable Repeat command is totally different to the Repeat command. When you use Enable Repeat you need to put this command in at the start of where you want to repeat from with a Repeat command at the end of the commands that you want to repeat.

As an example I have a train that starts from the maintenance depot first thing in the morning. It travels into the station that the service runs from and the enable Repeat command is placed at the point after the train has stopped. The train then runs an out and back service to and from the first station which is the section of commands that need repeating.

This means that the section from the depot to the station runs only once while the out and back service will repeat indefinately.

I hope that you can understand what I am trying to explain but if you need any further explanation just post back.

Regards

Brian
