Problem with Trainz!

I don't know where this really goes...

I have a problem with my Trainz installation, well we had a big route going, but then our graphics card decided to do a Dummy spit (stopped working, then felt like working again, after cleaning the dust) one of the routes stopped working, by showing ' error 'can't load map'' but in driver saved sessions were working fine (normal driver wasn't working with that route)

So we have tried re-installing the game, which we got to work once, all custom content which had been downloaded had disappeared, but upon trying to load the game this morning, it abruptly refused to load.

We tried installing service pack 1, but it crashed as well even after following perfect instructions (got them off an Auran Guy himself)

Here is my theory.

1. Computer related problem

2. Trainz is rebuilding the Asset.tdx file, and 4.07GB worth of content is just taking its sweet time.

I am thinking of leaving the computer on all night with the game open to see if it is rebuilding the file and just taking forever. but I need to know if that is the problem first.

Thanks! if you can help!

Sean,

You are not alone with technical difficulties lately! I just finished reinstalling and importing my content. The process took about 3 days from start to finish; I have a lot of custom content I downloaded over the years so I have something like 40 gig worth.

From your description of your problem, I think there maybe some more underlying issues with your computer, which you have felt is there as well.
Have you tried running diagnostics of any kind on the hardware since something else may have overheated and is now failing due to the dust in the fans. These problems are known as latent failures because they happen long after the orignal problem occurred.

Regarding your content. You should have copied your Local folder to another place, or burned a copy to a DVD. Sadly the uninstall and reinstall has deleted your content. If you had moved or copied the local folder, you could have imported your downloaded stuff after you reinstalled. This process can take a very long time, and is best done while you are doing something away from the computer.

When doing the service packs, you should run the database repair each time after the install completes. If I'm not mistaken, the process will run as soon as the install finishes. What concerns me is that this process is taking longer than normal, so this leads me to believe you may have a hard drive issue in addition to your video problem you resolved.

I hope this gets you going in the right direction in resolving your problem.

hmmm, I thought with the re-install that if you selected 'Don't Do delete anything' it wouldn't delete anything but thats apparently wrong if it deletes my content. but it still doesn't explain how my local folder now is actually 4GB + still (content)

The case on the side of the computer is off, their should be no residing heat problems, but we are planning to replace the CPU as it is aging and causing other problems. ( Currently its a Pentium Dual Core 2.8ghz.. thinking of going to core 2 duo..)

I have done diagnostic tests on the hard drives and all of them past 100%, should be no underlying problems.

Sean,

John and I have posted in another thread about our problem as well here;

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=47848

To save retyping I thought I would post a link :hehe:

You are now the 3rd person in the last few days reporting a problem, me included :hehe:

I am not sure about how you lost your content wither, I thought there was also an option to keep you content but apparently not. As I say in my thread, Zec has mentioned it to the Auran people to look at as he has seen a number of people with similar problems. Maybe also send in a report about your problem and any details about what was happening at the time and your personal thoughts.

Like John, my "local" folder is rather large but not as big as his. Mine is 12GB and I suspect it will take me a few days to fix everything. While I am doing that I will have a lot of time to think of a new computer, after all this one is 6 years old :hehe: .

It hasn't deleted anything. Just let it rebuild the database and it will find the content again.

We decided to re-install trainz again and cut our losses with the content, as leaving the computer on for such an extended period of time was not an option.

however. another problem has arised.

Content Manager Plus.

It simply refuses to work, it'll open. then it will stall indefinitely on 'Please wait...Applying Filter' we have a First class ticket and it even stalls on Querying it, I even tried download content manually (without CMP) then importing it. it crashed even doing that.

Now its back to square one, the same problems as before are occuring once again (look to first post to see the problem) Trainz will just refuse to load. it just stalls indefinitely on the loading screen, yet we HAVE NO NEW CONTENT downloaded.

I'm Really considering throwing this computer out, its a Bucket of Fail.

I also think that Trainz Web Support is also horrible, their website takes forever to load on our browser and the one Time that CMP worked. it froze on 'opening connection to Download Station...'

GAHHHHHHH!!!!!

So am I Sean. I have been thinking this way for some months now as my computer is over 6yrs old.

I am not sure how to help you more as my knowledge of computer parts (etc) is rather limited.

Who's still fixing problems in my "local" folder that where fixed before my 2009 played up

content manager

OK this is now desperate, content manager is stuck on querying ticket status,
'we have a 1st class ticket but cannot download anything. HELP.

The DLS is up and running at the moment. Get on quick.
After re-reading your first post did you install SP1 without opening trainz. Otherwise it wont work. Did you disable anti virus?

CMP

Do we have to uninstall sp1 and then run trainz, and then reinstall sp1, Ihave started a new route dont want to lose this one as well.

Install trainz then install SP1 then start Trainz.
Find where you have trainz installed, open the folder and you will see a folder called local. This has all your sessions etc . Move this to your desktop, copy it to discs whichever you prefer. Do this before you re-install.

done that, sp1 should be now installed properly. however CMP is stalling on querying our ticket status! this is not a good thing!

wait now its working now, make up your mind stupid program!

Have a look at Rail-sim.co.uk. There's a section on installing 2006 SP1 plus a fault sorting section you may find interesting.

Run the program with Administrator rights with Windows Vista and Windows 7. This will allow you to save any changes to routes.
