Price gone up?

As far as I was aware, it always was AUD$ 49.95 and still is in the Auran shop.

Strange thing though, my Order History shows AUD$59.90 and I can only assume that Auran are now charging postage. Ah well, that's fair I guess

Cheers

OzBoz, I checked the store and my order history a couple of days ago to see if they'd given me the discount voucher I reckon I should have received when I pre-ordered 2009, also for AU $39.95. I'm positive it was $39.95 when I checked then, but still no voucher.

As the subject of the price rise is also in another thread, I checked again today and it has gone up to $49.95.

There is a message on the store stating:

The Auran Store is currently being updated.
Due to situations out of our control all sales will now be performed in Australian Dollars. We will be implementing a system shortly to show the equivalent price in your local currency.

Auran have always charged AU $10 for Airmail postage, which is a bit over the top, considering the disk is in a hard plastic case that will travel fine in a non-padded Express Post bag that costs $5. (Maybe $6 with the new postal rates)

I've decided to give 2010 a miss so it won't worry me. At $39.95 (or even $49.95) less my discount, I may have considered it.

Though XE.com shows that it's almost 1:1 for Canadian dollar to Australian dollar.....

The joys of international currencies!

I reckon we should have kept £ s d

Still $49.95 AUD. If you have a discount voucher yo get 20% off,. If you have a hard copy mailed to you the charge is around $10 AUD. Therefor with a discount voucher it is $49.95 AUD and without $59.95 AUD.
Pretty Decent value to me.

I also paid $49.91 AUD after application of -9.99 discount and 9.95 Air mail. Seems a very fair price to me. Checking my order history I see I paid 89.95 AUD + 9.95 Air mail for TRAINZ01 back on 5th March 2002. So the price in 2009 is half that of the first commercial Trainz release. Back in 2002 I considered my purchase to be the Model Railroading bargain of all times (and still do).

I don't care how much it is, as long as it works.

If it works properly, then it's well worth the money,

and I believe all money put towards Auran will help them, make trainz a better product for the future.

Purchase today, future developement tomorrow

Basically the US $ is falling through the floor compared to the AUS $ and is not expected to regain it's traditional place soon. I think its something like 25% movement from a year ago so I suspect Auran is just trying to protect itself against further currency movements.

Basically fall out of the subprime mess.

No, it's not the subprime issue. That lowered property values and made the dollar stronger at least when it came to buying real estate. The problem with the dollar is out of control deficit spending. To finance that spending the current US government is offering bonds that no one wants to buy so it just prints the money to buy them itself. This leads to hyper-inflation and a very weak dollar. It is just the real world proving once again that Keynesian economics doesn't work.

When I checked a week ago it was AUS$39.99; today it is AUS$49.99 - there is no explanation as to why the price went up 25% without any warning. This is the same price for digital download or the boxed set.

Digital download makes more sense for me as it avoid me having to pay airmail to Auran and the Canadian GST and PST tax plus Canada Post post office tax handling fee - which adds another $20 to the cost

Speaking of over priced, I notice Auran is selling A-train 8 for AUS$55 (which is US$51 or CDN$53) digital download. You can buy it from a swedish game site for US$29, CDN$30 or AUS$31 - I thinkt he site is GamersGate. Fun game by the way - true to the original.

Sorry, but you are wrong, a week ago the price was USD$39.99, they now show the price in AUS$. 39.99 USD = 43.05 AUD, so the actual rise is 6.94 AUSD or 6.44 USD, John.

John,

When I checked 3 or 4 days ago the price clearly stated AUD. I thought it was 39.95, but it probably was $39.99 which is what I also paid for 2009. Even though I ordered 2009 before the deadline and was charged the pre-order price, I didn't receive any voucher. That's why I made a point of noting that I would have to pay $39.99 AUD for 2010 without the voucher.

I seem to recall you really are suppose to submit your GST and PST on purchases like this when you do your tax return at the end of the year. Canada Post handling fee is only $5, unlike one of the courier companies who wanted $70 once to clear an item that had no duties, GST or PST payable.

Now if you've done the pre-order thing and had a 20% discount voucher from the last one the cost would be about $33 from memory.

I have not checked it that recent, but I know it was USD39.99 when I purchased on 23 Oct., I had 8 USD discount off this making the price I paid 31.99 USD, John.

I'm sure it was AUS$39.99 - anyway it doesn't matter, the exchange rate is so close to 1:1 that it is still a big increase - per cent wise. I'm more annoyed there was no warning, nothing in the newsletters saying buy now because the price goes up on Nov X, etc. And if $39.99 was an error, then tell us that.
