Possibly getting Trainz 12 this sunday!

It's my 15th BDay on Sunday so along with some other games and DVDS, I may be getting Trainz 12!

I am really looking foward to the fact that...
  • You get realistic crossings, non of this "Ding all the time" Rubbish like on TS20606
  • You get awesome Doppler Effect!
  • There's the Amtrak Acela! One of my fav trainz!
  • More realisim!
  • A second chance to not mess up on the registration thing, I know what it will be(Railway Simulator-Powered by Trainz 12), meaning a chance to use the DLS if CM/CMP dosen't work!
  • New routes!
  • New tutorials!
  • New HOT looking trainz!
  • Realistic Cabs!
  • And much more I can't wait to discover!

Good luck, you'll need it. I'd suggest reading ShaneTurner12's blog, including the patching guide, and the SP1 Bugs thread.
 
Happy Birthday. I definitely would suggest you start your homework now while you wait and read up as much as you can on what's in store for you.
 
I would definitely recommend reading up first, especially if you go above build 49922. TS12 is a lot more demanding than TRS2006.

This will be an excellent time to give him advice.

Should he not run a TS12 train, before patching ?
Does he have to apply each and every one of the many, many patch's in succession ... then apply the SP1 patch ?
Is there a patch that he should not apply, so as to have compatibility mode ?

There's no compatibilty mode whatsoever in TS12. Regarding patching, there is a sequence but I can only advise on that once the game is installed.

I purchased two copies of TS12 to run MP, and now I still only run 2010. If I want to run MP, I go to another sim which has GREAT mp.
 
Happy birthday and good luck with TRS 2012. My advice is to only patch to build no. 49922 (someone correct me if I have the build number wrong) and AVOID SP1 and the hotfixes. You'll have better luck without them; as a few others have said there is a big learning curve for TRS 2012, but if you're up for the challenge then it shouldn't be too bad. Also make sure you have all the files in the Jointed Rail (JR is the shorthand reference to Jointed Rail, lots of folks use it here in the forums) 'Dependencies' section as some of the built-in content is JR content. I would suggest registering with JR now so you'll be ready once TRS 2012 arrives. Good luck with your introduction to Trainz Railroad Simulator!

First, Happy Birthday! I hope all the other parts of it are great for you.

Now, as far as the part I quoted above goes. I never had 2006, so I can't be sure what you'll get but as a user that jumped from 2004 to 2012 I was rather appalled at how many items from the past are in 2012 when you install it.

The result is that there are some spectacular looking locos, rolling stock, and buildings, and some that by comparison are total rubbish. There are also a few cab that are either blindingly bright inside and/or set about 20 feet above the TOP of all the other rolling stock.

So, you *can* find some stuff like you mentioned, but some other things... meh...
 
Agreed. I was pleased with how far Trainz had come in some aspects but also just as disappointed over how much things had stayed the same.

2006 I know about, it dosen't have the Doppler Effect, and you have forever ringing crossing bells. But overall, it does run smoothly on my laptop, depsite not being the fastest laptop in the world. :)

Hopefully you might be the first person to actually get a Golden Ticket, as there are only three left, and it seems no one the forum has come forward to winning a Golden Ticket yet, so you might be the first. However, I think you have as much chance of getting a gold ticket, as you have running your new Trainz 2012 first time without a hitch...lol

Thanks and btw, even though its not the "Willy wonka" golden tickets, I can't resist this..

I would like to just say another few things on my Bday list :)

2 more are Euro Truck Simulator 2 and BTTF Triogly :)(BTTF means Back to the future)

I don't mind if anyone talks off topic about other presents I may be getting :)

BTW, I'd skip BTTF 3, get the first 2 and spend the leftover on some trains.

Happy birthday and don't update above build 49922, you will regret it. I am also predicting that you will not be happy with the locking (padlocked) junctions.
