I think you will need e-portals for the first job.... somebody better qualified than me will reply soon.

The other points you made can be set up within the portal itself by clicking a portal to select it and then on the ? in the Objects Tab (right hand side).
I have done all those things. I set up trains first and made sure the wagons in it were able to load/unload whatever goods will be needed.
Then just select the appropriate things in the portal sub menu.
I think my Avalaon route uses quite a few portals like this.

Click on the portal after selecting the"?" on the building fly-out in surveyor.
At the bottom of the list is an empty box and the instruction, "Train returns after 5 real minutes delay". tick the box and it will open a menu of load and unload options, after choosing how long before you want the train to return.

The bottom option has a box and the instruction, "Train returns through alternate portal 'none' ". If you click on the 'none' you can type in the portal name that you wish it to return from. This is only if the portal is on the same route.
If you want a train to load when it comes out of the portal for the first time, I use the "Instant Load Command" that can be found on the DLS. This loads as soon as the train is clear of the portal. Remember though that it will load with the first product on the rolling stock's list.

The orders can be given as normal, then send him to the portal. If you want him to do the same thing again when he returns select "Repeat" after the portal entry.
e.g. drive to xyz-load- drive to portal abc ( the one you setup to return via an alternate)repeat.

Cheers,
Mike

All the things that angelah and mikeaust said. Espially set up your consist first and then save it in the consist menu. This will allow you to select your trains when you go to the portal menu.
You can select some loaded stock. A coal wagon by auran comes either way. Also a log wagon. These are built in. for unloaded stock, make sure it can carry the products that you want . In train mode in surveyor, click the? on the item and it will tell you the products it can carry. Some may give you a full list of all products (lars). If you want to control multiple portals, DL portal manager or central portal control.

Instant Load Loco Rule

Problem: When a train is consumed by a portal, and eventually re-emerges out of a portal, basically it is unmanned (no Driver).

What is the best way for a train to instantly assign a driver, for continious running automaticly when comming out of a portal.

The train throttles up a short distance outside of the portal, then it stops, as it has no driver.

Is there an Auto Assign Driver rule ?

Or is Instant Load Loco the rule to add for automaticly asigning drivers ?

Also: Is it possible to send a train from the route that I am running, into a portal...and when I close the route, and open up a another different route THAT train will be waiting outside the newly opened routes portal ? In other words, can I send trains from one route, to another route on my PC ?

Portals...Train stops, has no driver

Bump:cool: If I place a trigger outside a portal...will it keep the train running and assign a driver or drive schedual ? I want an emerging train to continue on its way perpetually, automaticly on it's own.

How can this portal problem be solved, without writing a script ?

yes you can do that, make sure you have the portal check the server for trainz comming to your lay out

I think I am starting to understand this:

Hi Cascaderailroad,
The portal return system can get a bit confusing. It depends on what you want to do and how many consists you want to do it with.

First off.
If you have created a consist in a portal and you would like it to be loaded, set up your instruction this way:
--InstantLoad (will load cars with the first item listed in the config for the cars in the consist once it has exited the portal)--drive to (unload destination)--Unload.
You then decide where you want the consist to go. Could be to load at another industry and leave the route via another portal, for instance.

When you want to return, there are a couple of options.
(1)You can leave by one portal and return via the same portal.
(2)leave by one portal and return by another.

Another point to remember if you want trains to be consumed by the Portal and not returned you need to use a separate Exit portal from the Return Portal. (These are the consists that appear to have no driver.)

If you use option (1) and have a single track you need to remember you need about 1 1/2 times the length of the consist between the portal and the first signal.
If you use dual track you need to leave a similar distance between the portal and the first junction switch to allow the consist to choose which track to take.

If you use option (2) you need to allow a similar distance to the first signal after the consist returns.

To configure the return Portal, select the length of time until the consist returns.
When you do this you get a number of choices as to what will happen load-wise.
You also get the choice of return by alternate portal 'none' (return from the same portal), or type in the portal you wish to return from either by number 'portal 3' or a name of 'place' your train went to unload.
Make sure that the name is exactly the same as the portal shows, it is case sensitive.

Now to create a continuous run for the consist.
It is best to start the run from a point just before loading at the industry, you can use a trackmark for the start point if you like.
To set up the run use the Driver Setup in Surveyor. Choose the driver and consist that is making the run and type your directions into the window below the driver entry.

Drive to--Industry-- load-- Drive to--Portal ( the one you configured above)--Repeat.
If you have setup your portal correctly he will reappear at the portal after the time you set and repeat the loading process, for as long as you run the session.
You can run as many consists through the portal as you like if you set them up this way as long as you signal your track to keep them apart.

Have fun,
Cheers,
Mike

Portals

There is a rule that let you set a time table for trains to leave the portal its called portal timetable rule (kuid2:61392:2002:1) i don't know how many trains can be sent but i had 5 in an hour they go from one portal to another. You can set up as many difference trains as you need.hope this help
