PORTALS Can't save my orders. Help

I need some clear instructions to be able to save my trains etc in a portal.
My problem is this:

I edit the CarlisleSkipton in 2010. I add trains/consists in the portals, with running times etc. I save it as a new route as "Test". When I bring up the route again, all the info in the Portals is lost.

I tried saving it as session. When I open the session, the portal won't even open so I can do anything to it.

I therefore ask for simple instructions for idiots as to how to save info on portals when you edit a route so that you can bring it up next time and run a session with all the portal info you have saved.

Any help appreciated.

I believe portals must be on the session layer or they wont work right. If you cant select the portal you must have the wrong layer selected you must be on the same layer as the portal to select it.
