POLL: Have you downloaded a digital copy of T:ANE Deluxe lately from NV3/SC ?

How long did the entire download take?

Do you use dial-up or DSL high-speed Internet?

Was the LARGE TANE installer file corrupted in transmission during the download?
Did you have trouble installing the downloaded TANE?

Did you use a download accelerator manager?


I ask because about 45% of my download (8+ GB total) has taken about 6 1/2 hours so far.

I had to restart my download manager because it stopped about two hours ago for some reason.
I am using a product called Free Download Manager for this heavy download.

I have cable internet, it took about an hour to download TANE, if I remember correctly. It went in with no issues, installed perfectly. I don't use a download manager, I simply used IE 11 and saved the files to my downloads folder.

Before I used my download manager, I tried using Google Chrome. The download failed repeatedly because once a connection to the server is broken, it does not automatically resume again, it aborts the download entirely.

I have a DSL connection that tested at 59 ms ping with 2.75 Mbps download speed, bandwidth. My download manager is running at about 75 to 500 Mbps, speed fluctuating.

I guess IE 11 is better at handling large downloads.

Yes in fact I just downloaded the latest Test build yesterday at a poor 300 to 500k using FDM which has never failed. Took about 5 hours this time, normally it's 3 to 4, I'm on mobile internet so it's a miracle it works at all.

Worth bearing in mind that Microsoft have started their Windows 10 updating which may be creating a lot of heavy traffic.

I have my FDM set for Heavy Traffic and to search for up to 999 mirrors.

My landlord's ISP, AT&T, could be throttling my download speed too.

Ping tests/speed tests are not always relevant to reality. Those tests use very little
byte/bit packet payload.

I also thought of something else. The Trainz download servers might be in Australia halfway
around the world. I am in California about 12 time zones away. I started my download at 25 minutes
after midnight and it is 8 in the morning here Pacific time now. Australia might be in peak hours
according to her time zone for server requests and might have been experiencing high traffic volume
for the past 8 hours or so.

N3V has servers in the US. Dallas, San Jose and Atlanta. When you go to download you have a choice.

You are right, 61. I just checked My Downloads at my SC account again. There are three set-up file mirrors listed
there and if I look carefully, each one says (USA) by them. I chose the top mirror for download.

However, there is no specification for city listed by each mirror.
The mirrors are listed in three text lines top to bottom and are all labeled
the same. City-wise, I don't know which is which.

It could mean that most people like myself just instinctively
choose the top mirror hence putting a heavy demand on that particular
city/server, wherever it is located. Being in California it might have been
logical to chose the San Jose mirror if those darn things would have
been labeled by city.

It is like a lady-and-the-tiger thing: pick door (mirror) number 1, 2 or 3!
