Please don't laugh!

I am a complete beginner, I have just bought Blue Comet, downloaded it and Installed it, but cannot find the 2 scenarios in the routes list.

Hi and welcome to trainz,

If I am correct, that pack only has a train in it. No scenario's, no routes.
If it has scenario's (called sessions nowadays), you need to figure out what route they are part of and search for them under that.

To just drive your Blue Comet, just go to any route, go to the sessions page of that route and click "create new session". Then on the right side of the screen, go to the bottom tab, look up your train, put it on track, together with other stuff you like to play with. Save your session, start it, and enjoy the ride.

The Blue Comet DLC isn't a scenario, it's actually a train (a 'consist' in Trainz terminology).

Look in Railyard and you should find it under 'CNJ' - the pack contains three locos (one blue, and one black, and an unlined black freight version), and some nice passenger carriages to go with it. If they're not there, click off the Favourites button and they should show up in the list.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the forums.

Don't worry, I'm not going to laugh at you. We all start somewhere.

The Blue Comet does not actually have any scenarios. What it does have, though, is the various parts to build the Blue Comet train(s) - these can be found in Surveyor, by looking for CNJ.

If it does not appear, make sure you have the following conditions met:
1.You have the serial number entered for the Blue Comet into the Configure Trainz dialog box. This can be accessed by clicking Options on the Launcher.
2.The favourites feature is turned off - to check this, click Main Menu when in game, then click Options, followed by Surveyor Settings. Scroll down the options shown on the right-hand side of the dialog box until you find 'only show favourite content' (or similar), then click in the box to untick it if it is ticked, then click the tick icon.

You can also use the Quick Drive button on any of your routes to drive the Blue Comet. The QuickDrive - New train dialog box will have CNJ Blue Comet Heavy and CNJ Blue Comet Light listed as options. You can place the train anywhere on the route and go exploring!

how sad is it that someone has to put please don't laugh as the thread's tittle, because a lot of forums will make fun of you for being new, or will ignore you because your not in a clique, let me know if the blue comet is worth buying! :)

I've seen forums like that.

Luckily, the vast majority of users here are friendly and willing to help with any problems. (Including me)

Sadly, that is the case with a lot of forums I've gone to - they're all too quick to bully new people til they quit. But luckily the Trainz forum isn't one of them. :)

As for the Blue Comet, I definetely say it is worth every cent. The locos are beautifully finished and the whole train looks great on the track. And that is coming from someone who has little interest in US prototype too (namely, myself). :p Plus, Auran has it on special now ($9 AU if I remember rightly, according to the DLS page), so if you're thinking of buying it, now's the time. :D

Anyway, purenostalgia, welcome to the wonderful world of Trainz! :D

Wow!, thank you all for your welcome and replies.
Yes did join another forum and after a week packed in. I am also a member of steam forums, they are also great.
I have looked in train shed and the blue comet loco and coaches are there, so things must have installed ok.
I wiil try all your suggestions when i get back from the computer club.

Being almost 70 and old school, I was always taught to end any corrospondence with my name.

So please understand, unlike the last forum when a member commented "For God's sake stop putting your name at the end of each post We know who you are."

Mike

I usually put my name at the end of my posts to make it easier for repliers. So far no one has commented about it.

The only bit of advice i will give at this point is that its worth reading the Code of Conduct if only to avoid possible problems later.

Just got back from computer club, your suggestions worked, thank you, 1 supplementary question please, what criteria decides what appears in the quick drive menu when you click new train, the reason I ask is that the blue livery of the comet appears but not the black livery.

Mike

There are a couple of ways to add a consist to the list shown in Quick Drive, the one suggested by the manual is rather esoteric and I've never quite figured it out. :D
The way I use is to select a route I am relatively familiar with and then Create Session. I then use the Trains tab (bottom right or 'F7' key) and hunt through the long list of stuff for what I want.
If you type CNJ in the box at the top of the list you will find the G3s Black and Tender as well as the P47 and Tender.
Now if you want you can add an assortment of freight or passenger cars to the loco and then simply save the session as... whatever. Then Open your new session and away you go.
Or you can add it to the consist list/Quick Drive list by clicking on the large button on the top right Train Mode or 'C' key, next click on the Get Consist button (small bottom left or 'G' key) and click anywhere on your train.
A pop-up box will show up asking for a name for the consist and once you name it, it will show up in the Quick Drive menu. You won't have to save the session in this case.

Have fun!

Edit: BTW there are no "black livery" passenger cars, just the two engines/tenders. I didn't look to hard but I don't believe there is much rolling stock for the CNJ.

Edit again: Turns out there is some stuff for Jersey Central Lines. :D

Here is what you do. Go into the Content Manager (Content from the main menu) and enter jersey in the box below Search. You will see quite a collection of rolling stock, the stuff from majekear is very nice. Also do a search for CNJ and there is some more stuff, some will work and some will not.

Finally, there is Jersey City Northern V3 Route, it's a bit old and has some broken dependencies but looks OK in my book.

Welcome, Mike! I'm fairly new as well and the community here is very helpful and friendly. Some nice advice in this thread- I was wondering about the quick drive consists as well- Thanks Normhart for the tips.

Kind regards,
