The only way that I've found (I also use AOL) is to press "PrintScreen", then open up an image program and paste the image into that, then crop to just the map image.
BTW, I use a program called irfanview. Its a free download from here http://www.irfanview.com/, and is excellent for resizing, cropping images etc. Try it!
BTW2 I presume you're OK with using the map image once you've got it? You may like to check out Geophil's reply to my question about planning portal over on UKTrainz forum http://forum.uktrainz.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=4986&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=28

My technique is also to screen copy the map and paste it into an image editor, crop out the rubbish and stitch together a number of squares to make up a basemap. It takes a lot of these to fill a 1 kilometer square and you need to ensure that you are getting the same scale each time if you are unable to complete the square in a single session.

For this reason, I always use the left-hand button [Select a Point] when zooming in. Its slow getting there but you will get a consistency of zoom that you won't get with the other button.

There are ways to get access to the clean images in both IE anf FF. In IE6, you must hold the mouse over the image until the image dialog comes up. It will allow you to save the pic. In FF, to save images, Follow this procedure:

Tools -> page info -> media. The only item there should be the image that you want.
