WOW Nikos!!
Great pics!!

I bet we will see some British stuff out of you now. ;)
Sounds and looks like you had a good time! :p

I had a girlfreind from England...she wasn't into trains though. She did have some great pics I'll have to dig them up for everyone. :D

I enjoyed the screens thanks! :)

Some very good photos their, Glad you saw 60019 Bittern in action. Being an LNER fan myself I'm very partial to the Gresley A4's. Also good to see you saw some Bulleid Pacfics. I must say as well the photo from the London eye is brilliant in my opinion, you really get a sense of scale of it all.

thanks for your comments everyone:)
Yes riding behing the Bittern was a great experience, not many places in the US with a mainline feel like this, shame they dont have a turntable though as its a waste of a nice streamlined engine to run it backwards half the trip:(
heres a few more from the south of England

Hello nikos1, you've got some fabulous photographs to look back on as a memory of your little trip to our humble country. At least you have some sunshine and blue sky in your photographs, better than the rain and floods. :hehe:

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

Wen, it was on August the 2nd, surely the sunburn isnt too bad after the miserable summer youve been having, the weather in Oxford got pretty intolerable at times, real shame as the English climate is quite nice when its not raining:)
anyways heres a few pics from Bath

I only started working from the 4th! It was (one of) my sisters idea, to help with that blue loco thats covered up in tarpan (www.45132.com).
It needs a few things doing to it and being out in the mid day summer sun with my skin colour, is a big no no.

Nikos, think pale, think redhead and you will understand how much of a problem my skin colour can be. If you need to, look on page 3 (I think it is) on "post a pic of yourself" (or simliarly named) thread to get some idea! :)
Just means I need factor 50 or above suncream, to make full use of the sun! :)

BTW, I noticed you snapped that "Yugo tank" (I hate that damm thing! See later), after it arrived and before someone helpfully shoved it into Ropley (long) siding (name anyone?)!
Anyway, to get to 45132, means I have to negotiate a sort of path to get to it, under a bridge, now those damm dimond plates (god knows why they are there, they stick out too far!) gets in the way, even with someone as thin as me, its still a challenge to get past, in fact, it can take my shoulders off if I walk past without taking care, because it sticks out too far!

Why the hell did they put it there?

you have some quite interesting stuff in that deadline,
you know what this steamer is by any chance?
Mid-Hantsrailwayandmiscengland095ed.jpg

doesnt look british too me, more like a eastern european design.
any ways thanks for going and working on the engines even if though you exposing yourself to sunburn, i really enjoyed my visits to Mid-Hants and i know my experience wouldnt have been possible without the work of volunteers like you:)

Its a small British Railways "standard" locomotive, these were built quite late in the days of steam and were an attempt at a combination of the best practice of the four large companies (LMS LNER GWR and SR) which were formed in 1923. The locos were meant to be more user friendly, with things like rocking grates, hopper ashpans, self cleaning smokeboxes and roller bearings etc. This ease of maintenance (ho ho ho!) is also the reason for the high running plate completely clear of the driving wheels.

I expect WEN will give you the exact number, my guess is 76017

Yep, thats the one, you might want to note the mess the Swanage crew made on the nose, as they cleaned out the Ashpan!

And Zoid! I have yet to see him around Ropley shed!
Anyway, I'll have a look the next time I am up there, I have been that far, but only on one occasion, the furthest I have been, is the SR Parcels Van, since it was much easier to slip under the buffers, than between D22 and Swanage, since swanage has a ladder under the buffer in the way!

I eventually had a look in the headshunt yesterday, to see which one it was and the locomotive number is 76017, which I am reliably told, is a standard 4 with a wheel arrangement of 2-6-0, there is another one at Ropley, same class, but is a 4-6-0, instead.

Zoid, were you on one of the trains yesterday or were you in the shed?
