If you mean that the image appears to shimmy, it could be caused by high frequency interference from an electric power source, like an air conditioner, radio or TV, with unshielded or ungrounded power line.

I've had this with both 2004 & 2006....

It appears that I need to set the vertical refresh to 72 Khz - that eliminates it... Unfortunately, the display driver defaults to 60 Khz.

Try using the advanced settings...

I had this same problem a few years ago but unfortunately I cannot remember what I did to cure it. It was certainly annoying and made Trainzing unplayable

It may have been around the time I had faulty ram in my machine but then again it may have been a driver issue. I remember it was a problem exclusive to Trainz and I remember posting to the forums about the problem but that must have been before the great forum crash as I cannot find anything by searching.

If the solution rears its head from my grey mist I'll post it!

If you have an AMD dual core processor this could be a known timing issue that these chips have with some games software. There is a fix for it somewhere on AMD's web site - don't even think about asking me where. ;)

A quick Google will turn up links for the AMD Dual Core fix although when I had the problem I was on a single core machine.

In the Trainz Configuration, Advanced Options, Refresh Rate, try different settings for the Vertical Sync and Frequency.

Picture shake

Hi guys
Many thanks for your input at the moment I'll put down to outside interference, as this also happened on my old machine but not until recently, and I had a single core then

Is it the whole picture, or just the graphics window? If the toolbars stay still, then it's the AMD dual core thing. I've just upgraded my other computer to an AMD dual core as well, and now both of them do it. I'd assumed it was a graphics driver thing, but I'll check out Andi's suggestion...

My own view is that this isn't a graphic card problem (directly) - however,

The UK has a nominal mains frequency of 50 Hertz - for some reason, a base resolution of 1024 x 768 at 60 Hz is OK for Windows, but stats to shimmer with Trainz.
Changing the Vertical Synch of the graphics card to 70 or 72 seems to avoid this problem.

I do wonder if something (graphics card or monitor) is trying to synchronise the 60Hz refresh with a 50 Hz mains frequency and failing...

I note that this seems to be a UK problem (?)

I stand corrected. This problem happened to me about a year ago when I bought a pre-built dual core PC for a couple of days (I have always built my own before). The issue is highlighted in this video clip I took at the time :

http://files.filefront.com/TRSfaultavi/;8436220;/fileinfo.html

In that clip I am not moving the view. That shows the extent of the 'shake' I experienced.

Unfortunately my solution to the problem is not going to be of any use to you as I took the PC back to the shop and got a refund and went back to my single core machine!

Sorry I can't help further but it certainly looks like the dual-core timing fix is probably the culprit. Saying that the only game it affected at the time was TRS - both 04 and 06. All other games I installed behaved themselves.

I am now on dual-core but I had already installed the fixes before putting Trainz on so cannot confirm if they helped.

and guess what,it worked a treat,so once again thanks for all that advice.

If that ever happens to me I'm going to tape it. I'll call it:

"The Trainz Adventures I: Picture Shake" :hehe:
