Pick a card, any card (as long as its good)

Suffering for his art.
Can anyone recommend a good graphics card for running TRS 2004 for around £50 - £60 as it's Easter (and I'm sick of chocolate:confused:) I'd thourght I treat myself, but with kids I can't afford too much more.

Cheers

check the pc world website, that will give you a start point for your price range. make sure your power supply unit is big enough for the card.

What's the rest of your system? If its dual core a better upgrade might be TC3 or TRS2009.

What's really important is is it AGP or PCI express?

Thanks John

Tom's Hardware site has good charts on the various and sundry GPU's available; without a more intimate working knowledge of your motherboard, we really can't suggest a card for you!

A better option would be to forget PC (we know zilch) World, and check out the Ebuyer site instead, better range, better prices & a good after sales service as well. :D

My system is a Duel 820 (2.8 gig) with 1024 mb ram. The current graphics card is a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (82945G Express Chipset), I presume the graphics card is a bit basic. So would going for TC3 or 2009 be a better option.

Cheers for the help :cool::cool:

Basically in order of performance bang for the buck, TRS2009, TC3, push the main memory up to 2.5+ gigs, buy a graphics card. TC3 has a lot of very nice UK content though.

I think you system is PCI express, try the scanner at crucial.com that should tell you what the motherboard is after that you an sort out the best graphics option.

Just had a look at Ebuyer site, cheers Blackwatch, just found a Sapphire HD 3650 512mb for £45 and a nvidi MSI 8400GS 512mb for £30. Which do you think? And are they any good? As I can afford both, I'm thinking the Sapphire (I'm not up on todays stuff, my knowladge died with the P100).

Just tried to run the crucial.com scanner but it says 'unable to determine the manufacturer and/or model number' but my motherboard is a eMachines D945GCL, maybe a Intel D9456GL clone or somthing. But having done some resurch it seems that I do have a PCI-E compaterable motherboard.

Cheers for all your help:D:D

I'm not understanding why you won't use the net to research the card yourself? Toms Hardware has a very fine chart system comparing GPU's, yet you are prepared to take the word of someone you don't know?

Perhaps you are not comfortable using the net. I'm not trying to be overly critical, but at some time you should try to use the resources that an internet connection gives you.

I would go with the 8400GS because I have had far greater success with their products than with anything made by ATI.

And that's the danger of asking for our opinion.:)

Cheers Napalm, my minds been changed but my piggiy is in bits :'(

Euphod - I've tried researching this but I'm just stareing blankly at pages of stuff, as I said my puter knowlage died out with the P100, now I'm totaly out of my depth and left feeling about 90 with an advanced GNVQ IT dip form 1996 also it's the amount of advertising thats about at times it's like asking Ariel or Bold (or any American equiverlant which waxhing powder would be best to use.

Start here:

This is based on US prices but still is a performance guide.

Basically you want a 55nm fabrication as it will be less demanding on your power supply, at your price range ATI. In general the 4xxx have slightly better performance per watt than the 3xxx.

If you can push yourself to it the 4830 ddr3 card at 75 quid would be very nice.

If that isn't in the picture then go to ebuyer and select ATI graphics cards and sort on price. Print off the Tomshardware link above and choose the best performing video card you can afford. Assume all ddr3 3650 512 mb cards are equal, if you settle on a 3650 card choose the cheapest one that meets specs. Sub a different number in for 3650 if need be.

Cheers for all the great help, my mind is made. just waiting for my cheque to clear then prehaps I can start to post some half good screenies with out texture probs.

Thanks again to all you kind people. :Y::Y:

whatever you do, dont use the one iv got, i found out today it is a third of the power required to run 2006! im really annoyed!

It's here and I'm chuffed. I can actually for the first time jump out of trainz (alt + tab) look at google earth then jump back into trainz and all the textures still be there, thats going to help no end in route building. 04 now runs the London suburb route smoooooth in 1240 x 768 with very good draw distances.
Screenies of my routes will be comming very shortly with good quality :udrool::udrool:

And again thanks to you all for the help :Y::Y:
