PC upgrade, Trainz 12 won't finish installation process on Windows 8

Hello. I have a serious problem installing Trainz 12 (bought about a year ago) on my recently upgraded pc. Some of the specks are: CPU 3770k 3.5 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, Intel SSD 520 120GB, an old AMD HD5850 with 1 Gb of memory and a brand new copy of Windows 8 (not professional). The installation starts as usual, but in the end the installation window "freezes"on "Finishing installatios..." description. I can complete the installation only if I "end task" TrainzUtil.exe from task manager. ContentManager.exe doesn't run correctly either. If I run ContentManager it shows as a proccess in task manager but the window never shows up. The same thing happends on Windows 7 with SP1 preinstalled. The game is installing without any problems on Windows 7 without SP1. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. (Sorry for my bad English)

Copy the TS12 from Win7 into the Win8 folder

Thanks Harold for the quick reply. I've done what you said, but ContentManager wasn't working on win8 even if the game was copied from my old PC, so I reinstalled an older copy of win7 and the issue was solved.

Did you check the firewall settings?

Win8 is better than Win7

I've reinstalled Win8 again because a win7 update rendered the game unusable like in the first scenario. I have uninstalled the updates step by step in an effort to identify which KBxxxxxx is causing this issue. I wasn't succesfull. The firewall doesn't make any diference unfortunatley. I'm stuck at the same step like in the first scenario.

This sounds like a permissions issue.

Are you running Trainz as Administrator?

Hi John. Yes, I've tried running it as admin and the issue is the same. ContentManager is runnning under Win95 compatibility mode only but it doesn't work correctly because the imported CDPs don't show up in the game even if I get the 0 errors and 0 warnings message.

Can I ask why you're running it under Windows 95 compatibility? Also, there is the possibility that either faulty content or the in-game favourites feature is causing issues.

Hi Shane. Win95 compatibility is the only option in which ContentManager's window shows up on screen unfortunately The issues are starting to show up during a clean install, where no additional content is imported. Since I'm the only on with this issue, I start to believe that some other software installed in my pc is somehow interfering with trainz 12 setup.

Yes sir.... I have managed to install it properly on my win8 installation. Now it's running as smooth as silk. I have reinstalled windows 8 with all usb devices disconnected. Hope I can manage to find which one have bad drivers. Thank you again to all who reply in this topic and I wish you all a great day
