Patching Error

Hi, I'm new to the trainz forums and this is my first post. I'm trying to patch my trainz 12 build from 57720 to 58414 and this error message comes up.

Existing file is damaged and cannot be patched: C:\Program Files (x86)\N3V Games\Trainz Simulator 12\prebuilt\asset-libraries\kuid -16 18853\769999559913e667.gsl

Failed to apply the patch: 57720_to_58414

What is wrong here? Can someone help me fix this? Thanks.

I have seen that error before, but it's not easy to get a replacement of that file so it's easier to reinstall the game. Backup the <trainz install folder>/UserData folder before doing so though. Also, welcome to the forums.

I would also suggest that you check your hard drive for errors as well.

I re installed the game, it works fine. But when I try to patch my build from 49922 to 58414 and this error message comes up:

File error while reading patch data.

What is this? How do I fix it? Thanks

If that does not fix it, try the autopatch method. To do this, click Options on the Launcher, then the Planet Auran tab, then the Patch Trainz button, then follow the instructions.

I'm new to this forum too. I tried to install Build 49922_58414 using the autopatch
method and get this message: Builtin\ts12e.ja file contents do not match, patching
aborted. Any suggestions please? Thanks Jaap.

That particular error means that the file mentioned in the error does not match what the patcher is expecting. This normally means a reinstall of the game is required. If you have any downloaded/created content, you will need to backup the <trainz install folder>/UserData folder before uninstalling.

Thanks for the reply Shane, I have since learned that there are possible problems with SP1
when installed, so I think I leave things as they are without updating.
I always thought if you update a program it makes it work better (iron out problems?)
and not worse. Jaap.

Sorry if I should be making a new thread instead of digging up an old one, but this is the newest existing thread I could find on the subject.

I am currently on 49922 with both installs I have. With the fresh install I let the automated patcher run, and it got as far as 49922 before it just hung there without doing anything (I left it to patch overnight with no progress the next morning) so, I downloaded the 49922 to 61388 patch and it gave me the whole "file error while reading patch data", even after I pointed it to the fresh install. I am downloading the patch again, but I have my doubts it will work any better than the first time as there was no interruption to the download. Not sure if it's relevant, but I am never actually able to press the "apply patch" button, it is always greyed out.

You might want to try using a file download manager as the file might be munched on the way across the network. If you purchased Trainz as a download, you can simply download the latest version, one that's fully patched, from whence you got the original. This will save you a ton of time when reinstalling.

When patching, keep in mind that the patch from 49922 to 61388 can take many, many hours to complete so having this as a single one-shot deal, already patched and ready is a good idea. Once this is patched you can simply copy your Userdata folder back in and run an EDR to integrate the data.

Do you know where to get the pre-patched version? when I downloaded the installer, it installed a version that was older than 49922.

Edit: It might be worth noting that I am required to go through the legacy order history on Auran's old site, I cannot access the downloads through Simulator Central...I'm not even sure if it's possible to transfer the records over (or if I would want to).

Edit 2: Ok, the redownload seems to have worked, though I would still like to know if it would be possible to have access to a newer installer for the next time.

The only way of getting a newer (pre-patched) installer if you purchased pre-Simulator Central is to re-purchase the game through Simulator Central.
