Is there any way to reshape the painting circle to say a triangle or reshape it and use different tools like gimp has or some other paint program any add on programs so I could fine tune my brush other than a circle or square rectangle ? Any thing other than whats in the tranz paint?

Nope. You can't change the shape. You can copy sections of painted surface and make small rectangles and squares that way, but no other shapes, sadly and no other way to make other shapes.

When painting textures, regardless of the brush shape the texture only applies to the cross points on the grid (where two yellow lines meet), and then fade out from there. So in reality the shape of the brush doesn't really matter, it's just a visual indication of where the texture is going.

You can also do "square" brushes by opening the Advanced drop-down in the Ground Texture tab. There you can select an area and fill that area with the selected texture. The texture will bleed out from the selected area, as you select along the same grid lines the texture applies to.

I recall suggesting about a thousand years ago to Auran that they needed a "masking tape" spline that you could texture to and get a hard edge, but of course that never happened.

That is a good idea ... but a gravel or grass spline needs to be textured externaly with: gimp, irfanview, paint.net ... etc ...

A spline can never be painted with textures in surveyor.

A spline can cover the sides of the track roadbed, and grass helps camouflage the jagged edge
