Paint Shed into Trainz 2004

Can someone help an enthusiastic novice in Iowa?

I can't get creations in Paint Shed to show up in Trainz (2004). The Paint Shed help menu reveals nothing, nor can I find the information I need anywhere. Any tutorials or instructions out there?

I can get to the config.txt in my Custom folder. My object shows up listed in the Trainz splash screen Content Manager.

If I find "Content Dispatcher" (v2.0 build 58) in the Start Menu and go to "My Package" > Add Asset > Trainz Custom Content > Trains, then right click to open config txt, and double click on the object, I get the message box Content Dispatcher > object type specified in config.txt (Asset ID) and category-class do not match > Selected Range: P(10000-19999) > Asset ID: 134 gtf. Actually, I don't even know if I need to be in Content Dispatcher--is it only for sending creations to other people?

I've combed the forums, only getting that I need to get proficient at working with config.txt, and a lot of the time it's a mis-spelling (which it isn't here).

And also...when I use the Download Station, trying both Download Helper and FTP transfer, I'm told it was successful (rolling stock). But where do they go? They never show up on Trainz!

I hope someone can help me, and I can be of help to someone else soon. Thanks!:D :D

Are these your paint shed items or paint shed items from the DLS?
If it's a DLS item you have to wake up your copy of Paint Shed by making an object and saving it. Then it will recognize the items from the DLS and run them in Trainz.
If it's something you painted in Paint Shed, then it's an odd problem I've never heard of. Maybe someone else knows something.

Thanks for your reply, but can you elaborate?

Thank you for writing back, but I can take a DLS item, put it into Paintshed, save it, then put it into my Custom folder in Trainz. It shows up there, but it never surfaces in "My Collection" or anywhere I can find it to view or use in Trainz.

I notice that you dont have TRS2004 registered in your profile, only UTC.

Check your UTC installation for the paintshed locos.

Content manager is for managing all your assets that you have made or downloaded.
Content Dispatcher is used for packaging assets to the Download Station, though i dont think it will work if you dont have TRS2004 registered (which you don't)

You should not need to access the config.txt, but if you can then print that here. Might help.

Hi Alan, I am still trying to figure my problem out. I apologize for the confusion. This web page lists in my favorites column as "Trainz 2004," but I actually have UTC (that may explain my confusion). I had a very early version of Trainz that I took off my computer before installing UTC.

I can create designs in Paint Shed or download them via Download Helper (with or without firewall). They go right to Content Manager on the Trainz splash screen or on my Start menu. The prompt shows no missing kUIDs. Under "view error log" there are entries, but the hypertext either says the page cannot be displayed, or it directs me, via Windows Explorer, to the folder for the content. In config.sys, that one weird KUID (-10.196 I think) shows up under "alias."

I tried re-loading Paint Shed as someone suggested, but it didn't help.

When I launch Trainz, I get the message errors were detected in my custom content, and I should return to Content Manager. It tells me to click to go online, but when I do, I get ads from designers!

I ordered Trainz 2004 Passenger Edition, which might be good because I'm really more interested in passenger rains anyway. Since I am having such a problem with Trainz UTC (the program itself works fine) regarding Paint Shed and Download Station, might this be a better option for me?

I thank you for your help -- Michael
