Open GL or Direct X

Hi Everyone,

I am sure this has been answered, but I could not find a post when I searched the forum. I was wondering which provides better graphics & fps rates for Trainz 2009 & 2010, Open GL or Direct X?

Current spec's for my computer:

Intel Quad Core 2 Processor Q6700 (2.66 GHz)
8 Gig DDR 2 - 667MHz
BFG nVidia 9800GT Video Card
Intel Motherboard: DP35DP

Also, if I were to upgrade to an nvidia GTX260 or higher, would I see that much of a difference with Trainz software?

Thanks for the help!!

Chris

On my HD4870 (Ati) It doesn't seem to make a different mmm.
Id like to see this thread go to a point where we can technically draw a line of differences between the two. Maybe my eyes just isn't aligned to notice the differences.

My machine (admittedly low-end) crawls and stutters in DirectX, but runs smooth as butter in OpenGL with my nVidia 8400GS. Perhaps card and driver version play a role but Trainz is unusual (AFAIK) in that it can use either OpenGL or DirectX. Try each and see what works best for you.

I've read here that Trainz doesn't take advantage of SLi or Crossfire anyway. Can you disable SLi and make Trainz work under OpenGL?

I could RRSignal, but then every time i want to use the advantage of SLI.

I will have to fiddle about in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Then mess about again to run Trainz. ;)

IKB.

Hi All: I sometimes loose my bogeys on my engines in Dx..So what I do is switch it to Open GL, go back into surveyor mode and check to see that their back(Bogeys)..I have done this on several occasions and it seems to fix the problem, so I go back and change to Dx..It seems to run better in Dx..
