Open Gl & 3DSmax

New to Trainz. Which better Open Gl or Direct X with Trainz2009. Program locks with Open Gl error when testing new (relatively large) routes I'm building. New 2.8 Intel 4 core Getforce 280 8g mem bla bla bla, so no real hardware issues. Just wonder which would get better results. Compatibility on/off - not sure which better or why. Also looking for more info on 3D max importing and packaging of maps and stuff.
 
Open GL or Direct X depends on your hardware. Compatibility on/off must be on for most old non-09 content, this is almost all content that comes with 09.

Thanks. Got a lot more info since post. Looks like 95% of content is from older versions. Highly usable stuff but want closer to what 's shown in Auran's 2009 screen shots. Use 3D Max to render for architects here. No problem with model building. Just not familiar with the way meshes and textures are treated in Trainz. Not much of a game developer, I guess.. Just have to start trying - maybe a bowling ball or a rail tie to get going.
