Old Trees Replaced by Speedtreez

Trainz Luvr since 2004
I remember seeing a thread on this months ago but can't seem to find it now. I just pulled up one of my old favorite TS2004 routes (Sandpatch Christmas) for the 1st time since it was imported into TS2010. Some of the existing old billboard trees have been replaced by speedtreez.

I've tried using the replace asset tool but for some reason it will not work with these trees. The tool seems to be working just fine with other assets.

Are there any work arounds to change or get rid of these speedtreez without doing it one by one?

Thanks in advance...

I could be completely wrong on this since I don't run 2010 much except for testing, but you may have to run in compatibility mode to keep the billboard trees from being replaced by speedtrees. At least I think that's how I did it.

I've tried both comp and native mode with the same results. I also just read something about some of the new speedtreez have the same kuid as some old billboard trees. That might explain why. I just would like to know why the replace asset tool is not working when trying to replace these speedtreez. I've tried several replacements, even other speedtreez but it's just not working.

That is strange. No one seems to want to admit it, but there seems to be a concerted effort to obsolete 2004 content. That's a shame since a lot of those billboard trees look great to me and there's so many to choose from, but then I'm prejudiced. I absolutely hate speedtrees.

From the description of the issue it sounds like you can use the get object tool to identify the tree and then drag it to the replacement window. If that's the case, you might take a look at the config file to see if there's a privileges entry that might prevent replacement. That's just a shot in the dark. I'm not aware of any entry that would do that.

I've run across a similar problem with a small group of speedtreez, but in my case they don't respond to get object at all. I suspect, but have been unable to verify, that it's because they have permit-listing set to 0 in the config file. I haven't been able to figure out any way to get rid of them other than deleting /replacing each one manually.

You may get a failure to Replace if TS2010 has hit the now infamous "out of resources" mark. A trip out of the Surveyor and back quickly proves that.

If the trees have been obsoleted they can't be replaced using the 'Replace Asset' tool because the tree actually on the route is not seen as a route asset.

If <kuid:123:456> is obsoleted by <kuid:456:789> then although 456 appears on the route the sim still appears to think it is actually still using 123.

You drag 456 into 'Replace Asset' and the sim thinks "Hang on, that's not a route asset, I can't replace that!"

Not entirely satisfactory...

Duplicate the old asset and give it your own kuid number. You can then replace the speed trees. Have done this for numerous TRS2004 routes and haven't a speed tree growing anywhere. Also you may need to save the route before replacement. Don't ask me why but for some routes the speed trees cannot be replaced until the route is saved, even if it is saved to the original name.

Ya speed trees replaced a lot of the trees I used in 2006 such as the poplars
which are not even in the CMP anymore either and spline trees I used the eastern type alot for background now those are fps killers kindda helped in saving time planting so many to conceal open spaces but guess I have to
resort to other options..........
