Old to new version

So I think I've come to the end of my time with the '2004 version' on Windows 7. Will any of that content be compatible with the latest version, or will I need to start over from scratch?

A 32bit OS will run everything up to TS12 ... a 64Bit OS is needed for T:ANE ... What are your PC Specs: Make Model, RAM, CPU in GHz, Power Supply wattage, video card make/model

Some 04, and older assets, will run, others will need fixing

Thanks for the info, I'm looking at MSI or similar gaming PC so that should have no problem, I was just more worried about the older content.

I would get a desktop gaming PC custom built for @ $2000 plus ... free shipping from Ireland, Wales, England ... several in the US too

Laptops are always more expensive, like $2700, and a laptop will always be inferior specs than a desktop gaming PC, and can be retrofitted

Below are my specs. You will want something similar to these to run T:ANE at mid-high settings. Go a little higher if you must have it maxed out and still get good FPS.

AMD FX4300 Quad Core 3.8 GHZ
XFX RX480 8GB DDR5 VRAM
EVGA 600W PSU
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2 MOBO
1 TB Toshiba HDD
Windows 10 Home X64

As you can read from my signature (unless you are reading this in the future, and I have removed it), the GPU I have isn't the best, but it still runs T:ANE on nearly max settings pretty well, albeit not as pretty as it is in most screenshots, since I have shadows on medium. N3V says they don't expect anyone to be able to run T:ANE at max settings, though it appears many have achieved that, and I thought I did as well until I realized I was running at an avg of 8 FPS on a fully decorated route... Shadows take a huge hit on performance, so keep that in mind when you're shopping for a GPU. Ideally, you want a GTX 1050ti or RX460 or higher.

You mean an Alienware or MSI gamer with these specs won't work: MSI - 17.3" Laptop - Intel Core i7 2.8GB - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 - 1TB Hard Drive + 128GB Solid State Drive $1400

That should work fine. :)

Other than double the memory and a GTX980 in my Aliensware, the machines are very similar.

My recommendation is to increase the SSD size from 128GB to 256 DDD at least. The reason is the drive will fill up awfully fast.

When you get this machine you can put the T:ANE data on the larger hard drive and keep the application on the SSD. It's a feature we suggested sometime ago which finally made it into T:ANE.

You can also use an external hard drives to overcome the storage problem.
I have all my Trainz versions using these.
Cheers,
Mike

You'll be looking to spend around $3000. Very few laptops can run T:ANE, and those that can cost about that much.

Matt

Not true. I run T:ANE on an ACER X54C. Granted, I have the sliders set about halfway, but the response is decent. My laptop cost me $550.

@RacingTrainz: If you opt for a laptop, have the salesperson run DXDIAG for you and check to see if it meets T:ANE's video specifications.
